Australia omit Beams, Vakarewa for day-night Women's Ashes Test

Legspinner Kristen Beams has been omitted from the Australia squad for the day-night Women’s Ashes Test, which starts in Sydney from November 9, with the hosts picking Amanda-Jade Wellington as the sole legspinner in the 13-member squad. Beams’ exclusion was the only change from the 14-member team that won two of the three matches against England women in the preceding ODI series.

Australia Test squad:

Alex Blackwell, Nicole Bolton, Lauren Cheatle, Ashleigh Gardner, Rachael Haynes (c), Alyssa Healy (wk), Jess Jonassen, Tahlia McGrath, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, Elyse Villani, Amanda-Jade Wellington

Beams, Australia’s highest wicket-taker at the Women’s World Cup earlier this year, was the 12th man in an Australian team that played a three-day pink-ball practice match against an ACT Invitational XI in Canberra recently. She had featured in only one match of the ODI series against England, taking 2 for 38 in the second match, after replacing Ashleigh Gardner, who had suffered a concussion. Another player from that practice match to miss out on the national squad was 19-year-old medium-pacer Belinda Vakarewa.National selector Shawn Flegler said both players were unfortunate to miss out on selection. “Belinda showed promising signs with the ball and is definitely a player of the future, and whilst she would be disappointed, it’s pleasing to see so many pace bowlers putting their hands up for selection. Kristen was also unlucky to miss out on selection, with the panel opting to go with just the one legspinner in the side.”Australia’s squad includes five players uncapped in Tests: Gardner, Tahlia McGrath, Wellington, Beth Mooney and Lauren Cheatle. One of the pace bowlers who impressed in the practice match was McGrath – she dismissed Elyse Villani, Rachael Haynes and Ellyse Perry in the space of four balls on Sunday.”A win in this match could see Australia take an unassailable lead in the series and retain the Ashes, so it was important that the side was well-balanced and capable of taking 20 wickets,” Flegler added.Defending champions Australia lead the series 4-2, having defeated England in the first two fixtures of the ODI leg and a win in the Test would fetch them four points and take their tally to eight. The Test will be followed by a three-match T20I series, which starts from November 17. In the event of both teams finishing on eight points, Australia will retain the Ashes.

Chelsea Close To Move For Own Rice In 5 ft 10 Ace Who’s The "Genuine Article"

Despite Chelsea’s new hierarchy remaining in the infancy of its ownership, we have already become accustomed to its eccentric, ridiculous, and untameable transfer dealings.

Their hijack of Mykhailo Mudryk from Arsenal and the deadline-day swoop of Enzo Fernandez for a record-breaking fee of £106.8m in January appeared unbeatable in terms of drama and chaos.

But, this club is addicted to headlines and a realisation over the lack of midfield options has festered into a desperate spree that could see the Blues hit new heights in their spending…

Moises Caicedo is about to break Premier League history…

What’s the latest on Moises Caicedo to Chelsea?

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are ‘increasingly confident’ of getting the Caicedo deal done on Saturday, following a round of positive talks with Brighton.

Their official bid won’t be less than Liverpool's £110m bid that was submitted on Friday.

Read the latest Chelsea transfer news HERE…

The Reds had agreed to a fee with the Seagulls, but the midfielder informed all parties that he only wants to join the West London outfit.

Chelsea play Liverpool on Sunday and the former hope to unveil the combative Ecuadorean at Stamford Bridge – which would be antagonistic flex of their overwhelming financial muscle and unexplainable transfer pull.

Why would Moises Caicedo be a good signing for Chelsea?

Back in January 2021, Brighton made the assuming purchase of Caicedo for £4.5m from Independiente del Valle, and they set to make over £100m profit on a player with just 45 Premier League appearances.

But, the fact he’s amassed such an esteemed reputation in a short space of time is a testament to his elite quality.

Even before he featured in English football, Tim Vickery predicted the 21-year-old to have a glistening future, saying: “He is a terrific athlete who makes football look easy. A box-to-box midfielder.

"That kind of box-to-box midfielder that's very much in the tradition of the England game. Strong, quick, intelligent and cool. He really does look like the genuine article."

Caicedo has supported Vickery’s statement by tremendously excelling within his age group as last season, he won possession in the midfield third the most times (142) of any U21 player.

The £60k-per-week titan also deputised as an emergency right-back, starring in clean-sheet victories over Arsenal and Manchester United. This led to extraordinary praise from Roberto De Zerbi, who said that Caicedo is a “top, top player” that can “play everywhere.”

As recognition for his boundless versatility, consistency, and limitless potential, the 32-cap international was named Brighton’s Player of the Season for 2022/23.

If Mauricio Pochettino manages to complete this signing, it could be on the same level of importance and magnitude as Declan Rice to Arsenal.

Declan Rice Arsenal

Both players occupied formidably efficient defensive midfielder roles that impeccably protect the defence. Moreover, they are also blessed with supreme technical ability, which means they are two of the world’s most talented and accomplished pivots.

Caicedo and Rice rank very closely for pass completion per 90 (88.6% vs 86.4%), progressive passes per 90 (6.41 vs 6.64), and interceptions per 90 (1.56 vs 1.78) – these figures mean they rank within at least the highest 24% in Europe’s top five leagues among their positional peers for these metrics.

The 5 foot 10 ace would be a huge statement for Chelsea and he will target a long-lasting and trophy-laden legacy at the home of the two-time European Champions.

PCB wants Under-19 Asia Cup moved out of India

The PCB is set to raise an objection to India hosting the Under-19 Asia Cup amid the climate of political tension between the two countries. The tournament is scheduled to be held in Bengaluru in November this year with Pakistan reluctant to tour.India has already been allotted the hosting rights of the tournament, but the PCB is set to table a resolution to relocate it to a neutral venue, during the upcoming development and annual general meetings of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on August 11 and 12. Shaharyar Khan, the PCB chairman, is the current president of the ACC.”Since Pakistan is current chair of ACC, we will discuss this matter on August 12 in Colombo,” Najam Sethi, head of the PCB’s executive committee, told ESPNcricinfo. “There are secure neutral venues outside India and Pakistan where the championship can be held.”According to the , the BCCI has already written to the Indian government to seek a clearance to host the Under-19 Asia Cup since the tournament would include a team from Pakistan. PCB sources confirmed to ESPNcricinfo that they want Pakistan to play the tournament but do not want the team to face any inconveniences while doing so.”We definitely want to play the tournament, being an important member in the ACC,” a PCB official said. “But playing in India in present circumstances is not possible. There will be a visa glitch and a lot of other off-field issues will prevail. We don’t want to face any inconvenience ahead of the event.”Besides the venue, the Western Region qualifying round for the Under-19 Asia Cup, which is scheduled to be held in Kuwait in October, is also set to be a key topic during the meetings, given the diplomatic crisis in the Gulf region. The pool of nine teams in the Western Region includes Qatar as well as teams from three countries that have broken diplomatic ties with it: Oman, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. The boards of the three teams have raised concerns over the presence of Qatar in the pool.In a separate development, the PCB also sent a notice of dispute to the BCCI for not fulfilling the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) the two boards had signed in 2014 regarding fixtures between India and Pakistan in the 2015-2023 period. The matter was initially meant to be resolved with talks, the failure of which has now led the PCB towards launching legal proceedings, hiring a UK law firm for suing the BCCI for compensation. The PCB’s Board of Governors have sanctioned over USD 1 million* to bear the cost of the legal case. The senior men’s teams of Pakistan and India have not played a bilateral series, in any format, since a three-match ODI series in India in 2012-13. They have met eight times in multi-national tournaments since then, however, with India hosting one of these matches – the 2016 World T20 group match in Kolkata.*PKR 1 billion was changed to USD 1million after a clarification from the PCB

Everton Have Deal In Place To Sign 21 y/o "Talent"

Everton have agreed a deal with Almeria to sign forward El Bilal Toure, according to Sky Sports reporter Alan Myers.

Are Everton signing El Bilal Toure?

The Toffees have brought in two new players ahead of Sean Dyche’s first full season in charge at Goodison Park, looking to avoid another Premier League relegation battle. Ashley Young has made the move to Merseyside on a free transfer after leaving Aston Villa, whereas Villarreal’s Arnaut Danjuma has followed him through the door, joining on a season-long loan.

A new centre-forward appears to be next on the agenda ahead of the 2023/24 season for Dyche and Everton, with Toure heavily linked with a move.

The Toffees have been battling it out with Serie A side Atalanta for the forward’s services, and it looked as if they could miss out to the Italian club, with Fabrizio Romano saying a club-record deal worth €28m plus €3m in add-ons was on the cards.

However, a transfer is yet to be officially completed, and Myers took to Twitter on Tuesday to share what he knows about a possible move for Toure.

The Sky Sports reporter claimed all hope isn’t lost on Merseyside and that Everton are still in the race and have even agreed a deal of their own.

“Everton remain in negotiations with Almeria for El Bilal Toure' despite reports suggesting the player had already decided to join Atalanta.

“The 21-year-old Mali striker is set to decide his future in the coming days with Everton having agreed a deal with Almeria, EFC still in it.”

When asked why negotiations are still ongoing despite a fee being agreed, Myers added:

“Negotiations are just that, you could say’s talks etc, things don’t stop just because a fee is agreed, so much more to a transfer.”

Who is El Bilal Toure?

It looks as if Toure will have the final say in regards to his next destination, and should he move to England, he could be a shrewd signing both in the short and long run.

Goals are needed at Goodison Park next season after the club netted just 34 times in 38 Premier League games in 2022/23 – the second-fewest of any side in the division. Dominic Calvert-Lewin once again struggled through injury, scoring twice in just 18 games, and the club’s top scorer was Dwight McNeil with seven goals to his name in 39 appearances.

Toure, who doesn't have a weak foot, as per Transfermarkt, also scored seven times in 21 La Liga games last season, the best tally of his career to date, and you’d like to think the 21-year-old will only improve with age.

Hailed as a "major talent" last summer by 90min's Graeme Bailey, the Mali international has even been compared to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, in terms of his extremely physical style up front.

He could well be an exciting addition, should he decide to join Everton over Atalanta, and by the looks of things, a move will be one to keep an eye on over the coming days.

Garton shines as Ballance looks forward

George Garton took the one wicket to fall as the touring South Africans faced just 20 overs on a rain-affected day

“Who the hell – what the hell – is that?” the Worcestershire member asked.Their confusion could be forgiven. George Garton is just 20 and has only played six first-class games. He’s not a first-choice pick at Sussex – though he probably should be – and he doesn’t look like a fast bowler. He is slight, not especially tall and has a whole-hearted bowling action so whippy that you fear he might snap at any moment.More than that, though, he bowls at surprising pace. Left-arm and fast, he gains sharp bounce from just back of a length and can swing the ball. It would be pushing a point to compare him to Mitchell Johnson but, on a dank day in Worcestershire, his somewhat erratic bowling was hard to pick-up for spectators and batsmen alike.”Was that a beamer?” the spectator asked again. “No, a bouncer,” his neighbour replied. It was an understandable error. The ball is hard to pick up from that wild action and Garton is a little erratic.Conditions were helpful for seamers, for sure. The pitch was described as “spicy” by Andy Flower, the Lions coach, and both Tom Helm and Liam Plunkett also caused problems with their pace and movement. Heino Kuhn and Hashim Amla, compact and patient, did well to help South Africa to stumps having lost only one wicket. But it was Garton who stood out. Dismissing Dean Elgar with one that pitched in line, drew the batsman into a stroke and then left him, he was described as “really dangerous” by Flower and “impressive” by his captain, Gary Ballance. “It’s the first time I’ve seen him,” Ballance said, “and I was impressed. It’s always good to have that pace and the ability to swing the ball.”How Garton progresses might well depend on how he is able to retain his fitness. Few fast bowlers are built like this – though Mark Wood isn’t so far away – and his bowling average (40.58), at this early stage of his career, suggests he is still learning how to apply his skills to the business of taking wickets. But there is a lot to build upon and if his potential is anywhere near fulfilled, he has an England future. With only 20 overs possible amid the rain at New Road, it was probably inevitable that conversation should turn to England’s squad for the first Test against South Africa. While most involved in this Lions side, like Garton, might have to wait a little longer for their opportunity, Ballance could be forgiven for checking his phone often on Friday evening. He must be very close to a recall.Ballance admitted he thought he would never feature for England again after the Test tour of Bangladesh. But now, after a return to Championship cricket that has seen his average in excess of a hundred, he feels he is playing the best he has in a while.”After that tough series in Bangladesh when I was left out, I did think ‘I’m never playing again’,” Ballance said. “Coming into the season, obviously I wanted to play for England but I didn’t think about it, I just tried to score as many runs as I could for Yorkshire.”People told me to change, but I tried and I couldn’t score a run. So I’ve gone back to what I’m good at. I still feel I’ve taken advice and learned and I do feel I’ve improved.”The best way to put it is probably that I’ve gone back to what I was doing originally but I’m doing it better. I haven’t changed too much. With the naked eye, you probably can’t see. I’m doing what I did when I was at my best and I feel like I’m batting the best I have in a while. I feel in good form and pretty confident.”He has the support of Flower. “Gary looks in superb form,” Flower told Sky Sports. “Even throwing at him in the nets, he looks really clear in his game plan. He has gone away and improved his game.”He looks like a mature cricketer who knows his game and knows how to score runs. We already know from his really good record in international cricket that he knows how to build innings. He’s pushing hard for an England spot.”Flower was somewhat less effusive about Haseeb Hameed. Pointing out that Hameed was the only one of the candidates for the opener’s role to fail in the Lions match against South Africa A – Hameed made 0 and 2, while Mark Stoneman and Keaton Jennings made half-centuries in both innings and Nick Gubbins made a half-century in the second innings – Flower suggested Hameed was still learning his trade against seam bowling, in particular. With a series against a seam-heavy South Africa followed by a winter tour to Australia, it seems a recall might not be imminent.”We had four openers in that Lions match,” Flower said. “We had Gubbins, Hameed, Jennings and Stoneman and Haseeb missed out when a few of the others scored and looked really impressive.”Haseeb is a young man who looks as if he is still discovering his game. He’s got very high potential, there’s no doubt about that, and we saw him handle himself brilliantly in the pressure-cooker situation in the Tests in India. He is a beautiful player of spin.”But he’s still working out his game a bit in facing high-quality seam. He’s still growing his game and finding out about himself and his game. The selectors have some decisions to make.”

Sunrisers top order brushes Kings XI away

Scorecard and ball-by-ball details3:33

Highlights – Dhawan, Warner, Willamson guide Sunrisers home

Sunrisers Hyderabad showed intent from the outset to get ahead of Kings XI Punjab via quickfire fifties from their top three batsmen, Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner and Kane Williamson. Thereon, Sunrisers never looked like squandering the decisive advantage they gained within the first quarter of the game, putting on the joint second-highest total of the season and following it up with another relatively comfortable defence.Shaun Marsh put on a display of timing in a belligerent 50-ball 84 to keep Kings XI in the hunt for the majority of the chase despite an increasing required rate. However, Kings XI’s insufficient resources towards the end meant they fell 26 runs short. Sunrisers’ win pushed them to third on the points table.Getting ahead of the gameIshant Sharma, one of two fast-bowling inclusions for Kings XI, bowled an accurate first over and generated appreciable lateral movement. Anureet Singh, the other, started with three leg-side deliveries. Dhawan flicked two of those deliveries to the boundary. Ishant’s line was wayward in his next over, and Dhawan picked him off for plenty of free runs. Dhawan helped himself to 20 of his first 23 runs into the leg side. Warner laid into the left-arm spin of Axar Patel, and Sunrisers plundered 60 in the Powerplay, their best this season. The field spread but the Sunrisers openers’ intent didn’t change: Warner and Dhawan hit five boundaries in the first five overs of the innings and six more between overs 6 and 10. Warner was bowled for 51, looking to swat Glenn Maxwell in the 10th over. By that time, Sunrisers had scored 107.T20s not all about powerWilliamson isn’t the most powerful of ball-strikers, especially while hitting straight. What he lacks in power, he makes up in touch. After Warner’s dismissal, Williamson took his time, accruing nine runs in nine balls. As soon as he felt a need to attack, he picked his areas and executed flawlessly. When the spinners dropped short, Williamson pulled. When the seamers were wide, he cut. He also improvised to hit behind square on either side as fatigue crept in. He faced the same number of deliveries as Warner, but scored three runs more without a muscular stroke.Falling behind legspinBefore the game against Kings XI, Rashid Khan had conceded just 48 runs off 45 balls against overseas batsmen this season. Kings XI required 141 runs off 13 overs when Warner introduced Rashid. Shaun Marsh and Eoin Morgan weren’t particularly comfortable against Rashid’s legspin. So they decided to chip away as opposed to putting Rashid off his length. While Marsh and Morgan, aware that Kings XI’s lower order was thin on batting, prodded about, the asking rate soared over 12. Rashid conceded just 16 off his four overs and had Eoin Morgan caught in the deep. It wasn’t the worst tactic from Kings XI, but the target proved to be too much to ‘play out’ a bowler.

Rangers "Remain Interested" In "Exciting" £9k-p/w English Starlet

Rangers "remain interested" in signing Nottingham Forest defender Jonathan Panzo, however the deal is "not any closer" to completion, according to Scottish Express journalist Scott Burns.

Who are Rangers signing this summer?

Rangers manager Michael Beale is looking to strengthen the spine of his team this summer, having recently lined up a move for Jose Cifuentes, with a move for the Los Angeles FC central midfielder expected to be completed in this window.

That news follows the recent reports that the Gers have agreed a deal in principle to sign Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers, who has been a key target for Beale this summer, and the 28-year-old is set to sign a four-year contract.

Having strengthened considerably in attacking areas by bringing in the likes of Abdallah Sima and Sam Lammers, Beale is now tasked with signing a new centre-back, and Panzo remains a target.

That is according to Scott Burns, who recently took to Twitter to offer a new update on Rangers' pursuit of the Nottingham Forest defender, saying: "Been told by sources on all sides that a move for Jonathan Panzo to Rangers is not any closer. Rangers remain interested. They know the fee and wages but have yet to trigger the deal. German and English clubs also remain actively in talks with Panzo's camp."

Burns' update contradicts a recent report from The Daily Mail, which claimed the Light Blues were closing in on the defender, however they are still very much in the race for his signature.

Is Jonathan Panzo joining Rangers?

Given that Burns claims a number of clubs from across Europe are in talks with the 22-year-old, it appears as though the race for his signature is very open, but he could be a fantastic signing for the Gers if they do manage to come out on top.

Lauded as an "exciting young player" by Forest boss Steve Cooper, the Englishman has showcased his stellar defensive ability over the past year, ranking in the 93rd percentile for interceptions, and the 85th for tackles, when compared to players at a similar level.

During his time on loan with Coventry City last season, the £9k-per-week centre-back recorded an average Sofascore rating of 6.99 in the Championship, the fifth-highest figure in the squad, indicating he is ready to test himself at a higher level.

At the moment, it is anyone's guess who Panzo will end up signing for this summer, but Beale will be hoping progress can be made soon, as he could strengthen Rangers' backline considerably.

Handscomb stiffens Yorkshire top order

Peter Handscomb, Australia’s top-order batsman, is Yorkshire’s choice for 2017 as an overseas professional in all formats

Yorkshire have named Australia’s top-order batsman Peter Handscomb as their major overseas signing in 2017.Handscomb made his Test debut for Australia at the end of November and made a maiden Test century in only his second Test when he scored 105 against Pakistan in Brisbane. The Victoria and Melbourne Stars batsman will be available to play in all three formats for Yorkshire over the summer, although it is in the longer format where his reputation is most established.Yorkshire have yet to secure a second overseas signing for the NatWest Blast which in 2017 will run in a more condensed window in midsummer.Martyn Moxon, Yorkshire’s director of cricket said: “We are delighted to secure Peter’s signature for the 2017 season. Peter is a player that we have been aware of for a couple of years now and he has made an excellent start to his Test career. We look forward to welcoming him to Headingley and hope that he enjoys playing his cricket for Yorkshire next year.”Andrew Gale had emphasised upon his appointment as 1st XI coach that he wanted to shake-up Yorkshire’s approach at all all age-group levels to developing Twenty20 cricketers, but the first overseas signing since his appointment does seem to have the Championship formly in mind as Yorkshire prioritise the top-order stability they lacked last season. With Handscomb likely to slot in at No. 3 and Gary Ballance, a new captain who could struggle to regain his England Test place next season (such is the thinking anyway) at No. 4, the line-up behind the openers Adam Lyth and Alex Lees has a more solid look about it.Gale said: “Peter is someone that we have had our eye on for a while. We looked at him as an option for last season, but the schedules didn’t quite work out. Since then he has gone from strength-to-strength, breaking into the Australian team and scoring his first Test hundred last week.”We are getting a guy who is on the up. He is young and wants to prove himself on the biggest stage. That will be good for us in county cricket. Number three is where he might slot into in county cricket, but that is yet to be decided. He gives us another option with the gloves as well as he keeps wicket in the shorter forms for Victoria.”The good thing is that he is a good player in all formats which suits us well given that he will be available for most of the season.”

Arsenal Could Sign "Magic" Ace In £51m Swoop

Arsenal have been linked with a Serie A gem as Mikel Arteta aims to bolster his squad this summer.

The transfer window officially opened on Wednesday to commence a busy summer for Edu and Arteta to introduce reinforcements to push on from last season's success.

The latest player linked to the Gunners could prove to be a significant upgrade in adding depth to the squad, in a talent likened to a Premier League ace.

What’s the latest on Federico Chiesa to Arsenal?

As reported by Italian outlet La Repubblica, Arsenal are interested in Juventus forward Federico Chiesa.

The report claims that the Gunners have taken the ‘first step’ in contacting the Italian giants for information on the winger.

It’s suggested that Juventus have set an asking price of €60m (£51m) for the 25-year-old, who is contracted to the club until 2025.

What could Federico Chiesa offer to Arsenal?

Hailed as “magic” by members of the media, the Italian international could add a host of attributes to Arteta’s attack.

Deployed primarily on the left-wing, the Genova-born gem could add competition to areas in the Spaniard’s squad that are notably strong, to entice competition and further performances as players battle for starting spots.

The versatile ace is capable of playing in a variety of areas in the front line with the ability to play centrally as well as on either flank, making him a strong option for Arteta to snatch in a player that possesses attributes to suggest he could thrive in the Premier League.

federico-chiesa-liverpool-transfer-news-premier-league

As noted by WhoScored, the Italian is typically strong in skills expected from a wide player such as dribbling as well as being able to get stuck in and assist defensively, an element treasure in the Spaniard’s system at Arsenal.

Playing ahead of progressive overlapping full-backs is a dynamic approach to play going forward but can leave side’s defensively stretched on the counter, which is an area Chiesa could assist in as supported by his average of 2.8 duels won per game, via Sofascore.

As per FBref, the winger is likened to Manchester City whiz Riyad Mahrez, who is a prime example of how to exploit talent in depth in a player that in rotation is always up to par to perform when called upon.

The likeness between the pair is particularly showcased by the fact that the two men can both provide a creative spark from the flanks, with the City ace ranking in the top 3% among his European peers for assists, while the Euro 2020 winner ranks in the top 4% in that regard.

With Martinelli’s position cemented in the starting 11 following a delightful individual campaign that saw him produce 20 G/A in the Premier League, Chiesa could be deployed in a similar fashion to Mahrez at the Etihad with hopefully a similar effect.

The winger displayed traits that could see him thrive in Arteta’s side, averaging 4.52 prog carries per 90 as well as 2.26 successful take-ons per 90 to showcase his abilities on the ball, via FBref.

In signing a backup that possesses quality enough to be in the starting lineup, Arsenal could begin to close the gap between themselves and City by increasing in quality rather than just numbers.
