Jota passed away on Thursday, as did his brother, Andre, Spanish authorities have confirmed, after a horrific accident that saw their Lamborghini sustain a tyre blowout and leave the road before catching fire. Tributes have poured in from across the sporting world and Wimbledon have relaxed their usually strict dress code to allow players to pay their respects should they wish to.

Wimbledon's dress code requires players to wear white, but they will be allowed to don black armbands for their upcoming games should they so wish. UEFA have already announced that there will be a minute's silence before Thursday and Friday's Women's European Championship games.
WHAT HAS BEEN SAID
Portuguese tennis player Francisco Cabral has confirmed he will wear a black armband in his next match, after defeating Jamie Murray.
He said: "I have seen the very sad news.
"The guy is a big name, not just in Portugal but in the world. He was a great human being with a nice family and three kids. My best wishes to them all. For his family, it is very tough to recover from that…

The highlight of the upcoming Wimbledon schedule sees British number one Jack Draper play Marin Cilic on centre court.
As they move closer and closer to Champions League qualification, Nottingham Forest have reportedly joined the race to sign a Real Madrid target who’s been statistically stronger than Murillo this season.
Nottingham Forest eyeing Real Madrid target
It doesn’t look as though those at the City Ground will be waiting long before flexing their Champions League muscles should they secure their place among Europe’s elite this season. Suddenly, a place in Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad will become that much more attractive, allowing Forest to set their sights higher than ever in the Premier League.
Among those already threatening to steal the headline are names such as Darwin Nunez and even Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha. And if those reports are anything to go by, then those in the Midlands are already planning for life without the incredible form of Chris Wood, who is already 33 years old and unlikely to remain at this level for years to come.

Nunez would be a particularly interesting option given how he has struggled at Liverpool and now seems destined for the exit door. Whether Forest can not only swoop in but then get the best out of the former Benfica man will certainly be interesting to see. Meanwhile, at the other end of Nuno’s squad, another reinforcement could arrive.
According to Caught Offside, Nottingham Forest are now racing to sign Evan Ndicka from AS Roma ahead of Real Madrid, Arsenal and Newcastle United this summer. The central defender has impressed in Italy once again this season, but could reportedly leave for as little as €40m (£33m) if Roma fail to secure European football this season.
Eintracht Frankfurt's Evan Ndicka
In what is a valuation that Premier League sides are reportedly willing to meet, Forest could take full advantage and land a bargain deal when the summer arrives. Ndicka could slot straight into Nuno’s side too, given how his traits align with Murillo’s.
"Great" Ndicka could be a monster next to Murillo
Having spent the last two seasons in Rome, Ndicka could now call it quits and complete a summer switch to the Premier League in arguably the biggest move of his career yet. At just 25 years old too, the Ivory Coast international is at the peak of his powers and simply must take full advantage of interest from some of England’s top sides.

As impressive as Murillo has been this season, Ndicka has been even better in certain areas. Stronger than Murillo in both the air and in tackles so far, the Roma defender could yet emerge to ensure that the Forest backline doesn’t have a single weakness to be seen this summer.
In two seasons at Roma, the 25-year-old has earned plenty of praise, including from former manager Jose Mourinho. The so-called Special One told reporters after Ndicka’s performance against Napoli in 2023: “This was without a doubt his best performance as a Roma player. He played a great game.”

One or two Liverpool stars might have had their minds tethered to the Champions League when Anfield got going against Southampton.
Wednesday’s Parc des Princes contest was as gruelling for the players as it was anxiety-inducing for the fans, and it may have taken its toll as the Redmen struggled to get going.
Liverpool players celebrate Mo Salah's goal
But, like so many times before in 2024/25, Liverpool got the job done, claimed three more points for their haul and extended their lead at the top of the Premier League, to 16 points – albeit having played two games more than Arsenal.
Liverpool's performance vs Southampton
It was a slow and uninspiring start, with Saints, adrift at the bottom of the table, growing in confidence as the Reds retained plenty of possession but did rather little with it.
Arne Slot watched from up high as he served the second and final match of his touchline ban, but the camera picked out his furrowed face as he watched his team struggle.
Ultimately, Liverpool’s quality prevailed, with Darwin Nunez poking home after good work from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah converting two penalties to move Slot’s side one step closer to the title.
Darwin Nunez applauds Liverpool fans
While Nunez and Diaz needed to make an impact after respective recent lulls, Salah just keeps on firing, with his latest brace making it 27 goals and 17 assists from just 29 Premier League fixtures in 2024/25.
He’s a force to be reckoned with and – it goes without saying – undroppable. However, he’s not the only one, with another star really proving his inimitable quality on the pitch.
8/10 Liverpool star is as undroppable as Salah
Salah so often steals the headlines for Liverpool, but this is a team heading toward the Premier League title, into the Carabao Cup final and holding an advantage in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Performance in Numbers
Trent Alexander-Arnold, 26, has long been regarded not just as Liverpool’s most creative player, but one of the most proficient playmakers wearing laces today. But he’s long faced criticism for his defensive ability – unjustly, for the most part.
Liverpool'sTrentAlexander-Arnoldapplauds fans after the match
Against Southampton, both elements of the full-back’s game were neatly showcased, always looking to drive attacking play forward while defending smartly against a Saints side with nothing to lose. Indeed, he racked up 122 touches and completed all four of his attempted dribbles, while winning seven of his nine total duels.
The Liverpool Echo’s Ian Doyle was enamoured with the Three Lions star’s display, handing him an 8/10 rating (the match best) and writing: ‘Denied by Ramsdale first half and probed the Southampton defence throughout with his range of passing. Defensively on point, too, in very fine showing.’

While PSG ran rampant against Liverpool, without ever finding the back of the net, Trent stood firm as Bradley Barcola, Khvicha Kvaratskelia and co targetted him.
Conor Bradley is perhaps a more naturally sound defender, and though there have been calls that he could eventually replace his senior positional peer, Alexander-Arnold has served a reminder in recent weeks that there is no one quite like him.
Liverpool right-back Conor Bradley
He’s evolving into quite the complete player. Is it any wonder Real Madrid are so desperate to bring him to the Bernabeu at the end of his contract this summer?
For Liverpool’s part, FSG will fight tooth and nail to tie the vice-captain down for the remainder of his prime. If he keeps playing like this, he’s not only undroppable now but a piece of paramount importance when considering Liverpool’s success over the coming Slot-led years.
Earns more than Alisson: FSG must cash in on "struggling" Liverpool star
Richard Hughes is looking to sign an upgrade this summer.
Manchester United were knocked out of the FA Cup on Sunday after they were beaten by Premier League rivals Fulham on penalties at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils found themselves 1-0 down to a Calvin Bassey header but battled back to draw level through Bruno Fernandes, taking the game to extra time.
Ruben Amorim’s side were unable to find a winner in the additional 30 minutes and the tie went down to spot kicks, with two misses for United sealing their fate and denying them a quarter-final clash in the competition they won under Erik ten Hag last season.
It was a disappointing performance and result for United, in a season that feels full of them for the club, and Amorim’s last realistic chance at a trophy this term is now the Europa League.
The Portuguese head coach, who joined from Sporting to replace Ten Hag, may already have one eye on the summer transfer window and the decisions that he will have to take over several players.
Amorim
One player who could be on the chopping block is Swedish central defender Victor Lindelof, who was one of the players to miss from the spot on Sunday.
Victor Lindelof's performance against Fulham
The 30-year-old centre-back came off the bench to replace Leny Yoro in the 54th minute and may not have expected to rack up 67 minutes of action, including extra-time.
As part of a back three, Lindelof was fairly protected and put in a decent enough showing against the Cottagers, winning all three of his duels and completing 96% of his attempted passes.
The Sweden international made four clearances and two tackles, without being dribbled past a single time, and seemed to be on course for a solid outing at the heart of the defence.
Unfortunately, however, Lindelof’s own bravery let him down in the end. The centre-back stepped up to take one of the penalties, before the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Chido Obi-Martin, and saw his fairly weak effort saved by Bernd Leno.
As you can see in the clip above, the Swedish titan has proven in the past that he can stick away penalties in pressurised moments in the FA Cup, scoring at Wembley to book a place in the final in 2023.
Despite a decent performance outside of his penalty miss, Lindelof is one of the players who should be moved on by Amorim in the summer window.
Why Victor Lindelof should be let go
The former Benfica star is out of contract at the end of June and he has not done enough on the pitch to suggest that the Portuguese head coach should be looking to extend his deal at Old Trafford.
With only a couple of months left to go in the season, Lindelof has yet to start a Premier League game for United. All six of his appearances in the top-flight have been as a substitute, which speaks to where he is in the pecking order of centre-backs.
Chalkboard
This shows that he is not a frontline option for United, as he was rarely selected by ten Hag or Amorim, although part of that has been down to his recent struggles with injuries.
As you can see in the table below, Lindelof remained relatively injury-free, with no long-term absences, in his first years at the club, but he has missed a whopping 37 matches since the start of last term.

Lindelof, who has made 270 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils, has not been reliable enough in terms of his availability in the last two seasons, which has also led to him being on the fringes of the squad.
Therefore, Amorim must allow the experienced central defender to move on from Old Trafford in the summer when his contract expires, but he is not the only player who must be ruthlessly let go.
Argentina international Alejandro Garnacho is another dud who the former Sporting manager must cash in on when the summer transfer window opens for business.
Why Alejandro Garnacho should be sold
Firstly, there was reported interest from several clubs in the January transfer window, including Napoli, Chelsea, Juventus, and Atletico Madrid.
This suggests that there are plenty of teams who would be willing to do business with United if they decided to sell Garnacho when the next window opens up, rather than it being a case of the Red Devils needing to find a team to take the player off their hands.
The 20-year-old dynamo has had some terrific moments in a United shirt, as shown in the clips above, but his regression in the current campaign is a cause for concern with his decision to walk down the tunnel after being substituted against Ipswich last week undoubtedly the nadir of his career so far.
It was a moment that displeased some, including Man United writer Alex Turk, who suggested that the youngster needed to “grow up a little.”
So, with Garnacho (£50k-per-week) reportedly earning more than teammates Patrick Dorgu (£40k-per-week) and Kobbie Mainoo (£20k-per-week) his declining performances on the pitch suggest that the club should certinaly look to cash in on him before they look to increase his wages.

As you can see in the table above, the academy graduate’s output in the final third in the Premier League has decreased this season, with more ‘big chances’ missed per 90, fewer goals, and fewer assists and key passes per 90.
This, essentially, means that the United youngster is not offering as much as he did in the 2023/24 campaign as a difference-maker in front of goal, which has made him less and less effective on the pitch.
These statistics show that Garnacho, who missed two ‘big chances’ in the loss to Fulham on penalties, is trending downwards and United should look to extract the maximum out of his current value, amid interest from a host of teams.

Selling him now could result in United hitting the jackpot if his form continues to plummet in the years to come and his value falls along with it, which is why Amorim must finally ditch him, after opting against it in January, as well as Lindelof in the summer.

Craig Ervine says the pressure of making the next round is off, and hopes his players will express themselves with freedom

The Super 12s are only just beginning but Zimbabwe have already achieved their major goal of the T20 World Cup: to actually get to this point.Coach Dave Houghton previously said he would not consider his team to have actually qualified for the tournament unless they advanced from the first round and secured a spot among the bigger teams. Now, they have done that and been given a licence to “do cause as much damage as we can,” which they are accepting with a mixture of trepidation and thrill. “Everybody’s really, really looking forward to playing the bigger teams and putting up some more good performances and just carrying on the momentum that we’ve built up so far,” Craig Ervine, Zimbabwe’s captain said. It’s a far cry from the Zimbabwean side that were on the edge of their seats more than four years ago, when they bottled a chase of 230 in a rain-affected 40-over match against UAE and missed out on the 2019 World Cup. At 7 for 2 in their must-win game against Scotland on Friday, Zimbabwe feared history may be repeating itself but getting over the line in that match has helped them exorcise some of the ghosts of that previous failure.”It’s been nice to qualify and put all those demons to bed from the UAE game. A lot of guys obviously had a few of those thoughts at the back of their minds – once we lost two wickets in the first couple overs against Scotland, but to get over the line there was absolutely crucial for us,” Ervine said. “There’s a bit of relief in the camp, and now guys will have a lot of weight off their shoulders, and can now enjoy the next few games.”Related

Sikandar Raza and Zimbabwe bury ghosts of Harare 2018
With no further expectations or explicit targets in mind, Zimbabwe enter the Super 12s unshackled although they remain acutely aware of what they are up against. “It’s probably a little bit nerve-racking to have to play all these big teams again, but it’s a great opportunity for guys to put their hands up and get in some real solid performances,” Ervine said. “It does take away a little bit of the pressure that we have felt over the last week during the qualifiers. I think that guys will be able to express themselves a little bit more and just have a little bit more freedom to come out and just play the game of cricket.”Though they are Full Members, Zimbabwe play significantly less cricket than the top eight teams and have the fewest fixtures on the next FTP. Their opportunities to test themselves against the best in the world are rare and limited, but not so far in the past that they can’t remember what is required. They last played against India and Bangladesh in August this year, against Pakistan in April 2021, and against their first Super 12 opponents, South Africa in 2018. But they have played more must-win cricket in Australia in the last week than any of those teams and have the advantage of getting their squad used to conditions and pressure situations.Muzarabani, Chatara, and Raza have enriched Zimbabwe’s bowling stocks•AFP/Getty Images
So far, they have demonstrated that their strength lies in their varied bowling attack, led by a pace pack for whom Australian conditions appear to be tailor-made. “They’ve been so good for us up front with the new ball. We’ve picked up a few early wickets, which has helped the cause,” Ervine said. “Here in Australia, Blessing [Muzarabani]’s been able to extract a little bit of bounce, Richard Ngarava has been excellent up front as well, getting a little bit of movement with the new ball. And Tendai Chatara has been excellent with the new ball, and he’s been able to get it to go both ways.”And after batting line-ups have got through that, Zimbabwe have at least three spin options, led by a resurgent Sikandar Raza, who has remodelled his action and developed deliveries including the carrom ball. “He’s always going to be a key performer for us in the order as well as with the ball,” Ervine said. “His contributions are obviously always so important because he strikes the ball so well. He scores so quickly and his four overs with the bowlers is huge and important for us, especially to slow down the run rate of the opposition.”Zimbabwe’s weaker suit is their batting but Ervine is hopeful that they will play to their potential, and without fear, as the tournament progresses. “The first couple overs have been a little bit tricky in the lights just because there has been that little bit of movement around. So we are looking to try and have a look and see those first couple overs, see what’s happening and what sort of movement there is. From then on, it’s just kind of playing the bowlers on merit basically,” Ervine said. “Everybody’s got all the shots.” And Zimbabwe are ready to fire.

Raised in a household without a father figure for much of his early life, Sánchez said he took on whatever small jobs he could find to help his mother and sister. His first official football paycheck – just 1,500 pesos (75 Dollars) when he was 17 and playing for Santos Laguna – was spent on a heartfelt celebration.
“With that money, I bought burgers and sodas for my mom, my sister, and myself,” he said. “We sat down and cried together while eating. It wasn’t much, but we enjoyed every bite.”
Despite an up-and-down start to his stint at Cruz Azul, where he arrived in mid-2024 to replace Rodrigo Huescas at right back, Sánchez remains a symbol of perseverance and resilience. Having played in Europe with Ajax and Porto and now representing Mexico at the national level, he’s living a dream built on hard work, sacrifice – and pony rides.
AFPDID YOU KNOW?
After making his first-division debut with Santos Laguna in 2016, Sánchez made a significant career leap when he joined Club América in 2018. His performances there earned him a spot with the Mexico national team, eventually leading to a move to Europe in 2022 with Ajax. That same year, under coach Tata Martino, Sánchez became a regular for and was called up to play in his first World Cup in Qatar.
He was later loaned to FC Porto before returning to Mexico, where his role has slightly diminished under current national team boss Javier Aguirre. Although he was not selected for the Nations League Finals, he did feature in earlier qualifying rounds. Despite this, Sánchez remains one of the top full-backs in Liga MX and is expected to fight for a spot in Mexico’s squad for the upcoming Gold Cup.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Bellerín has admitted that he didn't fully appreciate the magnitude of Arsenal until after he left the club in 2022. The Spanish defender spent over a decade at the Emirates Stadium, but says he was so caught up in the day-to-day bubble of being a footballer that he didn't realise the true scale of the Gunners.

Bellerín joined Arsenal from Barcelona as a 16-year-old in 2011 and quickly established himself as a fans' favourite in north London. The right-back was part of the Arsenal sides that won three FA Cups under Arsene Wenger and Unai Emery, and also helped the club reach the League Cup final in 2018.
WHAT BELLERIN SAID
Bellerin told The Rest Is Football: "When I was playing for Arsenal, you know, I was really young. I basically became an adult in my time over there.
"And now when I look at Arsenal games, I look at the club, I think like, ‘Wow, this club is so big!’ I never even realised how massive, how important, how many people it affects, how many people support this club – and just how, how big it is, you know?
"I feel like football also doesn’t give you the time to really think about these more existential kind of matters, you know?" he added. "You have like two, three games a week, so just getting ready for the next one, recovering from the one before – so many things happening."
