Arsenal ready to make offer for £102m-rated Thomas Partey replacement

Arsenal are ready to make an offer for a player with a mammoth release clause as they aim to shake up their midfield this summer.

Arsenal transfer rumours

Despite Euro 2024 being around the corner, those in a position of power at Arsenal will instead be heavily focused on the upcoming transfer window as they seek a first Premier League title in over 20 years.

Arsenal could land £26m Martinelli upgrade whose "left foot is a weapon"

The talented winger could be the perfect addition to the Gunners’ frontline.

ByJack Salveson Holmes Jun 8, 2024

On the whole, the Gunners' squad has improved over the last year, with young stars like William Saliba and Declan Rice taking the next step in their journey to becoming seriously world-class talent. However, as is the case with most teams, there were a few players who did not have a great season with Arsenal.

One such player is Thomas Partey. The 30-year-old had previously been an integral part of Arsenal's midfield and formed an excellent partnership with Granit Xhaka. However, the Ghanaian's inability to stay fit severely hampered his playing time, with the midfielder making just 14 league appearances across 2023/24, completing 90 minutes on just five occasions – arguably making him an unreliable long-term option for Mikel Arteta.

With Partey's time as a regular for Arsenal potentially coming to an end, the north London powerhouse have begun looking at alternative options.

They are reportedly interested in signing Everton's Amadou Onana and have already made contact to be "informed on the player's situation". Elsewhere, the Gunners are maintaining an interest in Newcastle United's Bruno Guimaraes, while they are also still looking at Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi, from whom they may well "try again" to sign.

Arsenal ready to make offer for £102m-rated midfielder

Now, a fresh name is garnering interest from the Emirates. The player in question is 19-year-old Benfica sensation Joao Neves.

As per Portuguese outlet A Bola, Neves was added to Arsenal's transfer shortlist recently and they are now ready to make an offer to try to bring the midfielder to England. However, Arteta is only said to be willing to offer up £51m for Neves' services. While this is a high sum for a teenager currently earning over €18k (£16k) a week, he is said to have a £102m release clause in his deal, which runs until 2028.

Despite only being 19, Neves has made 75 senior appearances for Benfica, including 55 across the 2023/24 season. His stellar showings have also earned him a place in the Portuguese national team and praise from his fellow countryman, Bruno Fernandes.

"He is an excellent player and an excellent kid. He will have a bright future wherever he goes," Fernandes said.

Champions League football means Arsenal likely have decent money to spend this summer, and selling Partey would soften the blow of any heavy outlay on Joao Neves, not to mention any other targets they have.

However, their pursuit of the youngster may be complicated further by his current club, who have been keen on hike his release clause to around £127m, which would be well over double the Gunners' reported current offer.

Ange unleashes Kulusevski in predicted Spurs lineup vs Sheff Utd

Well, here we are. The end of Ange Postecoglou's first season at the helm of Tottenham Hotspur. How will it be defined?

A blistering start to post-Antonio Conte life reinvigorated the north London club and hinted at the success that could be on the cards, with Postecoglou winning a hat-trick of Premier League Manager of the Month awards to start his English career.

Injuries, setbacks and dismal drops in form have pulled Spurs into fifth place with one fixture left to play, but travelling to relegated Sheffield United, Tottenham need just one point to stave off the advance of resurgent Chelsea, who are three points behind and host Bournemouth.

Postecoglou will be confident that his team can close the campaign on a high but will do so nursing a host of injuries. Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Timo Werner and Destiny Udogie remain sidelined, with further fringe players also ruled out.

Still, Postecoglou could enforce two changes to the team that lost to the champions-elect on Tuesday evening.

1

GK – Guglielmo Vicario

Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario

Guglielmo Vicario has been one of the most consistent performers in Tottenham's squad this season but he was unable to stop Erling Haaland from clinching a double last time out, thwarted after some impressive early saves.

Still, the Italian hasn't missed a minute in the Premier League this season and holds down one position that the Lilywhites need not worry about in the market this summer.

2

RB – Pedro Porro

Pedro Porro celebrating for Tottenham.

Despite a few setbacks, Pedro Porro has been fantastic under Postecoglou and will be in with a shout for the club's Player of the Season. Rarely substituted, he's likely to make his 35th starting display at Bramall Lane.

CB – Cristian Romero

Tottenham defender Cristian Romero

One of the most aggressive, tenacious and fear-inducing defenders in the Premier League, Cristian Romero has been immense this season (red cards notwithstanding).

The Argentine 2022 World Cup winner is sure to be on the shopping lists of some high-profile outfits this summer but Spurs will fight desperately to ensure he's still down N17 come September.

4

CB – Radu Dragusin

Radu Dragusin in action for Tottenham

Radu Dragusin enjoyed an impressive performance against Manchester City, dispossessing Haaland early on and being handed an 8/10 match rating by football.london's Alasdair Gold.

He's been used infrequently since signing from Genoa for £27m in January but with Destiny Udogie and Ben Davies out injured, he's found a great opportunity to showcase his skills at the season's late stage.

5

LB – Micky van de Ven

Micky van de Ven celebrates for Tottenham

Having cut his teeth as a full-back with FC Volendam in the Netherlands as a youth, Micky van de Ven has covered for Tottenham's injured left-backs superbly, lively and coming out on top in four duels during the recent defeat.

The 23-year-old's qualities are best served in central defence but his ability to impress and maintain fluency in a makeshift role speaks of his high-level ability.

6

CM – Rodrigo Bentancur

Rodrigo Bentancur.

Rodrigo Bentancur cut an incensed figure after being substituted after 55 minutes against the Premier League's foremost force. But he caught the eye against City and will hope to end the season on a high after venting his anger on a defenceless chair.

The Uruguayan has endured a protracted period of frustration after spending most of 2023 out injured and failing to recapture his one-time form.

But with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's error-strewn display leaving much to be desired, the Danish "monster" – as he was once hailed by countryman Morten Bisgaard – must be benched and Bentancur handed the keys as the holding midfielder.

7

CM – Pape Matar Sarr

Tottenham midfielder Pape Sarr

Pape Matar Sarr played further forward than usual against City but is probably going to move back into deeper, more familiar territory against the Blades.

An extremely talented but still unrefined midfielder, the 21-year-old Sarr ranks among the top 19% of positional peers across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for goals and progressive passes, the top 20% for pass completion, the top 15% for assists and the top 17% for interceptions per 90, as per FBref.

8

RW – Dejan Kulusevski

Tottenham star Dejan Kulusevski celebrates

Tottenham have enjoyed the best and the worst of Dejan Kulusevski's attributes in 2023/24, who, after an excellent start to the season, has lost his footing and has started 11 of his past 16 games.

The Sweden international has only posted one goal and one assist apiece in 2024 but impressed off the bench earlier in the week, causing 'plenty of problems for City' – as Gold put it.

9

AM – James Maddison

James Maddison celebrates for Tottenham

James Maddison has started to find his feet again after struggling to replicate his pre-injury form in recent months, and now he must prove to Gareth Southgate that he's fit and firing ahead of this summer's European Championship.

As per Sofascore, the 27-year-old completed 90% of his passes, placed four key passes, succeeded with his one attempted dribble and won seven of his eight duels during the defeat against Manchester City.

More of the same, please.

10

LW – Brennan Johnson

Brennan Johnson for Tottenham

With Kulusevski likely to be back in the starting line-up, Brennan Johnson's position-hopping finish to his first year as a Lilywhite will continue, with the Welshman back on the left.

He earned an assist during his last foray on that side of the frontline at Anfield and will cause a host of problems to the beleaguered Blades.

Sunderland told £3,000-a-week star who Mowbray loved is going to leave

After a season that started with plenty of play-off promise ended with a disappointing 16th-place finish, Sunderland are reportedly set to suffer transfer consequences in the coming months.

Sunderland transfer news

If those at the Stadium of Light could go back in time, then it would be interesting to see whether they would have parted ways with Tony Mowbray in favour of appointing Michael Beale. When the former left, the Black Cats were battling well for a top six place, but by the time his successor departed, their play-off chances were left looking more like a pipe dream than anything else.

Sunderland could finally get Rusyn firing by appointing Still alternative

Sunderland fans will hope this bold new manager can turn Nazariy Rusyn into a goal-machine.

By

May 7, 2024

Mike Dodds' interim spell in charge didn't help improve things either, resulting in a season to forget on Wearside. Now, Sunderland have been left searching for their next manager in a decision they must get right. The likes of Paul Heckingbottom and Steve Cooper have been linked, but it remains to be seen just who will be stepping into the hot seat.

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper.

Whoever it is though, they will reportedly face an instant transfer problem as a result of a frustrating campaign at the Stadium of Light. According to Graeme Bailey, Sunderland will lose Trai Hume this summer as a consequence of their struggles.

Bailey told Sunderland AFC News: ”I think you’re going to lose Hume at right-back too. Well, they were looking to sell the lad you got from PSG [Pembele], but I think one of the right-backs will go. They had originally signed the PSG boy to succeed Hume, but he hasn’t got much of a look in, has he?”

It's quite the blow for Sunderland, who could lose not one, but two right-backs to leave them with no choice other than to turn towards the transfer market for reinforcements. Hume would be a particularly frustrating exit, given his starting role and high praise from Mowbray, who said: "I told him to be patient, that there would be injuries and therefore opportunities, and to make sure that he was ready to grab it.

"Make me think, 'wow'. That's what happened, Lynden has moved on, Luke is at centre back, and Trai has made that position his own."

Hume departure would sum Sunderland's season up

As much as Sunderland will want to look towards positives and starting a new era at the Stadium of Light, Hume's exit would deal them a huge blow, even if the right offer comes in to clear his reported £3k-a-week salary from their wage bill.

His exit would act as a warning sign of just how important at least competing for a place in the Championship's top six is and then, of course, promotion to the Premier League. With or without Sunderland, however, Dodds believes that Hume has top-flight quality, having praised the right-back via Chronicle Live back in March.

Dodds said: “If he carries on the path he is going to, Trai is going to the Premier League. That’s how good I think he is. When you think of full-backs in this league, Trai would definitely be one of the best if not the best full-backs in the league and I don't think there will be many arguments over that."

If he is to exit as predicted by Bailey, then perhaps the Premier League is where Hume is heading this summer. At 22 years old, he's certainly got the time and potential to thrive at the top level.

Umar Akmal ban appeal to be heard on July 13 after coronavirus delay

Umar Akmal’s appeal against his three-year ban will be heard next Monday on July 13 by an independent adjudicator at the National High Performance Centre in Lahore. The adjudicator is a former Supreme Court judge, Justice (retired) Faqir Mohammad Khokhar, and notices have been issued to both Akmal and the PCB with regards to the timing of the hearing. The appeal was set to be heard on June 11 but became yet another victim of the coronavirus pandemic, coming at a time when cases were increasing rapidly across Pakistan and lockdowns were imposed across Lahore. As a result, it was postponed; and now that the date of the new hearing has been confirmed, Akmal is set to learn his fate in a week’s time.Akmal was banned for three years by the PCB on April 27 for failing to report corrupt approaches and was found guilty of two breaches of the board’s anti-corruption code. The charges come under Article 2.4.4, which deals with “failing to disclose to the PCB Vigilance and Security Department (without unnecessary delay) full details of any approaches or invitations received by the Participant to engage in Corrupt Conduct under this Anti-Corruption Code”. While each charge carries a three-year ban, they are being run concurrently. The severity of the punishment was at the time considered surprising, but it emerged he had been handed the stiffer-than-expected penalty for failing to show sufficient remorse. Players who had fallen foul in a similar manner to Akmal previously were handed far lighter sanctions, with Mohammad Irfan banned in 2017 for six months, while Mohammad Nawaz was given a two-month ban.Three weeks later, Akmal announced he would contest the decision on grounds that the length of the ban was unprecedented for a breach of the nature he had been found guilty of committing. According to the PCB’s code, the appeal does not mean a fresh hearing will have to be conducted, with the appeals process limiting itself to “a consideration of whether the decision being appealed was erroneous”.The ban has come as the most significant setback to 29-year-old Akmal, whose career has been littered with controversy. Repeated incidents of indiscipline since his debut in 2009 have meant that he has been fined and suspended on several occasions; and an inability to stay fit has led to penalties as well. In September 2017, he copped a three-month ban for publicly criticising then Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur, and earlier this year, was reprimanded by the PCB for misbehaving after failing a fitness test, reportedly exposing himself to a trainer in frustration at one point.

Arsenal hold talks with "future superstar" who could replace Zinchenko

Arsenal might still be in with a chance of lifting the Premier League title this weekend, but with it looking rather unlikely, planning for an important summer of transfers has already begun.

The Gunners have generally got their recruitment right over the last couple of years, with Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice, and Leandro Trossard just some of the highlights, but the future of one ace who joined less than two years ago already looks up in the air.

Oleksandr Zinchenko joined Mikel Arteta's north London revolution in the summer of 2022, but after some high-profile defensive blunders, including one at Anfield that led to Gary Neville labelling him a "liability," his role in the team is up in the air, and based on recent reports, he could soon be replaced.

Arsenal transfer news

According to a recent report from Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Arsenal are interested in Fenerbahçe full-back Ferdi Kadıoğlu, with talks between the club and the player's representatives "ongoing."

The journalist has revealed that the Gunners are looking to sort out an "agreement on personal terms" with the player first and have not spoken to the Turkish club yet.

Tavolieri has not revealed a potential price that the north Londoners might have to pay to get their man, but a previous report from earlier this month claimed that the fee will be around £30m.

There is an element of risk in paying that much money for a player from outside of Europe's top five leagues, but with Zinchenko clearly out of favour with Arteta and starting just three of the last 13 games, it could be worth it.

How Ferdi Kadıoğlu compares to Oleksandr Zinchenko

Now, if Kadıoğlu does arrive in north London with the intent of finally replacing Zinchenko at Arsenal, how does he compare to the Ukrainian?

Turkey and Fenerbahce defender Ferdi Kadioglu.

Well, when it comes to their attacking output on the pitch, there's no competition.

In 49 appearances this season, the Arnhem-born gem has scored three goals and provided five assists, whereas the former Manchester City man has provided two assists and scored just one goal in 34 games.

It isn't just a one-off win for Sarı Kanaryalar's "future superstar" either, as described by talent scout Jacek Kulig, as he scored four goals and provided five assists in 48 appearances last season, while the Gunners' left-back once again managed just one goal and two assists in 33 games.

Another critical advantage the Fenerbahçe prospect has over the man he may replace is positional versatility.

For example, while the Radomyshl-born ace has the skillset to invert into midfield when in possession, the vast majority of his starts in professional football have come as a left-back.

In comparison, the £48k-per-week Turkish international has started in attacking midfield just eight times fewer than left-back and has plenty of experience on the right wing and at right-back to boot.

Lastly, while the "electric" full-back, as described by data analyst Ben Mattinson, does have some issues with injuries, missing 43 games since the start of the 2016/17 campaign, they're minuscule compared to Ukrainian's as he has missed a whopping 118 matches in the same period.

Ultimately, while Zinchenko helped Arteta bring the team to where it is today, it's clear that he isn't going to be the number-one choice left-back going forward, so if Arsenal have the chance to sign Kadıoğlu to replace him, they should take it.

Chelsea will rue losing "sensational" ace whose value has soared 328%

After spending over £1b on transfers since the takeover of Todd Boehly in 2022, Chelsea had to sell players to try and balance the books to avoid any potential punishment for breaking the Premier League's PSR and FFP rules.

The Blues allowed the likes of Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek to depart Stamford Bridge over the last couple of transfer windows, with the club raising needed funds.

Chelsea's Mason Mount

The club announced a pre-tax loss of £90.1m for the last financial year, with the west Londoners still needing to shift more players out of the door to allow for more wriggle room in the battle against any punishment.

Despite the fire sale at Stamford Bridge in recent times, Mauricio Pochettino's side may live to regret allowing one player to depart the club with the former Blue excelling away from the club this season.

Callum Hudson-Odoi's stats at Chelsea

Youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi broke into the Chelsea first-team back in January 2018, during the FA Cup tie against Newcastle United, with his performances catching the eye of sides all over Europe.

The winger would go on to be a squad player for the Blues over the next couple of campaigns, with arguably his best performance coming in the Europa League against Malmö back in 2019.

His subsequent performances led to major interest from German side Bayern Munich offering a deal worth up to £70m for the attacker, with Chelsea rejecting the offer for the academy graduate.

However, a spell of serious injuries such as hamstring and Achilles problems saw him miss large parts of the 2020/21 season, before an unsuccessful loan move to Bayer Leverkusen in 2022/23, which saw him score just one goal.

Bayer Leverkusen's former loan forward Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The club would sell Hudson-Odoi to Nottingham Forest during the summer of 2023 for a lowly fee of just £3m, less than three years after the interest from Bayern Munich.

Callum Hudson-Odoi's stats at Nottingham Forest

He made an instant impact on his first start for the Reds, scoring a goal-of-the-season contender against Burnley – securing a vital point for his new team.

The "sensational" talent, as described by scout Antonio Mango, has gone on to score four times in the Premier League this season, with the attacker also creating two assists for his teammates.

Despite his impressive creative input, Hudson-Odoi has controversially been dropped by boss Nuno Espírito Santo, with the former Chelsea man having to settle for a place on the bench in recent matches.

The winger may have only started once in the last three league outings, but his market value has soared since his move to the City Ground.

The youngster is definitely benefitting from more consistent game time away from Stamford Bridge, with the Blues potentially living to regret his departure given his impressive season for the Reds.

Man Utd’s "very special" wonderkid could be their answer to Endrick

Manchester United’s campaign so far has been filled with plenty of ups and downs, and only an FA Cup triumph or a Champions League spot can salvage it.

However, the latter does seem to be an all-but-impossible task, with fourth-placed Aston Villa currently nine points ahead of Erik ten Hag’s team.

In truth, the best part of the season thus far has been the rise of Kobbie Mainoo, who’s developed into such a key player for the Red Devils this season.

After making his first England start at 18 and earning an 8/10 rating – as per Sky Sports – the talk is expected to be all about the midfielder, but a certain Brazilian wonderkid, Endrick, has stolen the limelight over the international break, and United may just have their own version of the diminutive attacker in the pipeline.

Endrick‘s performances for Brazil in numbers

At just 16 years of age, Endrick became the most expensive Brazilian to have ever signed for Real Madrid in a deal worth £60m back in 2022.

However, the attacker will only move to the Santiago Bernabeu in July of this year, when he turns 18. The Los Blancos faithful have only just seen glimpses of the talented youngster over this international break, having starred for his nation.

Despite only coming on as a 71st-minute substitute against England, the 17-year-old scored the only goal of the game after tapping the ball home into an open net.

Endrick was once again left out of the starting lineup in Brazil’s friendly against Spain this week, but he was called upon at halftime, and just four minutes later, he found the back of the net once again, scoring in the stadium he would soon call home.

The hype surrounding the 5 foot 8 attacker is extreme, but the Red Devils may already have their answer to Endrick, waiting to showcase his talent to the world.

Man Utd could have 21y/o Maguire successor who plays with “no fear”

The young centre half could have a big role to play next season.

ByTom Lever Feb 22, 2024 Shea Lacey could be the next Man United superstar

Shea Lacey may not be a name that the majority of the United fanbase will have previously heard about, but he’s certainly a talent that could make a huge breakthrough in the not-so-distant future.

The 16-year-old is a talented winger within the Red Devils academy who’s even been called a “Phil Foden regen" by journalist Jack Kenmare.

This description of the United prospect is rather accurate, with Lacey being known for having a wonderful left foot, while having the ability to play on both wings and as an attacking midfielder.

However, the progress of the versatile ace has been put on hold this season, having missed months of action due to an injury, meaning that he’s only played eight games this campaign, scoring twice and picking up four assists.

That said, as you can see by the table above, Lacey has already shown glimpses of his quality, particularly when he was subbed on as a 64th-minute substitute in Man United’s 3-0 win over Galatasaray in the UEFA Youth League.

The “very special” talent, as dubbed by journalist Alex Turk, displayed his well-rounded catalogue in such a short cameo, with vast passing, chance creation, dribbling, and the ability to deal with off-the-ball duties all on show.

There’s doubt that Lacey’s ceiling is extremely high, and with Ten Hag clearly showing a willingness to give the youth a chance if they deserve it, it may not be long until the teen star is involved in the first-team setup.
