The Liverpool wonderkid rescued Arne Slot's out-of-sorts side as they broke 10-man Newcastle's hearts in a Premier League classic.
Rio Ngumoha's stoppage-time winner secured Liverpool an incredible 3-2 victory over a fearless Newcastle United side who played the majority of the game with 10 men.
Newcastle were dominating the Premier League fixture until Ryan Gravenberch's sucker punch goal from 25 yards stunned the home crowd in the 35th minute. Gordon was then sent off following a VAR review for a reckless challenge on Virgil van Dijk to rub more salt into the wound.
Former Newcastle transfer target Ekitike made it 2-0 with a sumptuous shot 20 seconds into the second half but the home side's hopes were rekindled thanks to Bruno Guimaraes' pinpoint header in the 57th minute. The Toon then drew level two minutes from time when William Osula capitalised on some poor defending, but the 16-year-old Reds substitute had the last laugh with a stunning winner in the 100th minute.

Goalkeeper & Defence
Alisson (7/10):
The Brazilian was the busier of the two keepers in the first half as he did well to keep Newcastle at bay. There wasn't much he could do for Newcastle's goals, though. Without him, they would have lost.
Dominik Szoboszlai (6/10):
Handled himself fairly competently in an unfamiliar right-back role and stepped more into midfield when his team had the ball. Did a lovely dummy for Ngumoha's winner.
Ibrahima Konate (5/10):
Does not seem to be at the races so far this season. Perhaps the talk of a Liverpool exit, and his stalling over a new deal, are not helping him right now.
Virgil van Dijk (7/10):
The captain largely led by example at the back, won most of the aerials that came his way and made the defensive line more secure.
Milos Kerkez (6/10):
Was up against the pacy Anthony Elanga, and while the former Manchester United man had him on the back foot, he held his own at times. However, he was outmuscled for Bruno's headed goal as the Hungarian did some questionable defending.

Midfield
Curtis Jones (5/10):
The Liverpool academy product was part of a midfield that was overrun at times and looked outmatched against Newcastle's ferocity.
Ryan Gravenberch (7/10):
The returning midfielder looked a bit off it early on but then scored a superb long-range strike to stun the home crowd. Was busy throughout the contest.
Florian Wirtz (5/10):
Their record signing had a couple of nice moments but many will expect more from the Germany international going forward.
AFP
Attack
Mohamed Salah (6/10):
The Reds legend was feeding off scraps in the first 45 minutes but Newcastle were always wary of his potency.
Hugo Ekitike (7/10):
Had a quiet first half as Dan Burn kept him in check and Newcastle dominated the contest until Gravenberch's goal. But all that was forgotten when he scored his third goal in three Liverpool games with a clinical finish just after half-time.
Cody Gakpo (5/10):
The Netherlands international didn't get many chances to come off the left wing and cut inside for his trademark runs. Offered very little.

Subs & Manager
Conor Bradley (5/10):
Picked up a booking when he came off the bench.
Federico Chiesa (6/10):
Worked hard but didn't get much joy out of Newcastle's defence.
Harvey Elliott (6/10):
Came on for what could be his last game for Liverpool as a summer exit beckons.
Rio Ngumoha (9/10):
Made himself an instant hero with an ice-cool finish at the death.
Wataru Endo (N/A):
Came on right at the end.
Arne Slot (7/10):
His side did very well to go two goals up against the run of play, despite being outplayed, but despite having the extra man, they never really grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck. They showed great determination to get the win and his substitutions made the difference.

She took 180 wickets in 141 ODIs and 125 wickets in 117 T20Is. She was the first cricketer, male or female, to take 100 T20I wickets, and also the first West Indies woman to take a T20I hat-trick.Mohammed was part of five ODI World Cups and seven T20 World Cups. Her last international outing was in March 2022, the ODI World Cup semi-final against Australia.”The last 20 years have been truly amazing, I have enjoyed every single minute of it,” Mohammed said. “The highs and the lows. I believe the time has come for me to step away from the game and allow the young players to live their dreams as I have lived mine. I was privileged enough to step onto the field wearing my maroon 258 times in my career.”Medium-pacer Selman’s international career started in 2008, with an ODI against Ireland in Dublin. She has 82 wickets in 100 ODIs and 51 wickets in 96 T20Is. She last played for West Indies in February 2023 at the T20 World Cup in South Africa.”I am proud of playing with and against legends, and lucky to have dismissed a few,” Selman said. “My aim was always to inspire and assist others in their dreams. As I transition to the next phase of my career, I look forward to continuing to share my passion for the game in new ways.”Twins Kycia and Kyshona, who will turn 32 next month, made their West Indies debuts in 2011 and 2013 respectively. Wicketkeeper-batter Kycia has made 1327 runs in 87 ODIs and 801 runs in 70 T20Is. Middle-order batter Kyshona has 851 runs in 51 ODIs and 546 runs in 55 T20Is. They both last played for West Indies in December 2022, in a T20I against England in Bridgetown. The Knights said: “As this marks the end of an enjoyable and amazing journey, we would like to take this time to thank our family, friends, team-mates and supporters for the continued love and support throughout the years. None of this would have been possible without the support and love from you guys and for that we are forever grateful. Lastly, thank you to CWI for the opportunities granted and memories that will be forever cherished.”
Angelo Mathews became the first player ever to be timed out in international cricket after a helmet malfunction in Sri Lanka’s World Cup group match against Bangladesh in Delhi, adding further drama to a rivalry not short of it.Mathews was already on the pitch and in his final preparations before taking strike against Shakib Al Hasan. His helmet strap broke just as he was tightening it around his chin. He called for a replacement helmet, which was run out to him by Chamika Karunaratne. Shakib then appeared to initiate a discussion with umpire Marais Erasmus, after which Mathews, as he was not ready to face his first ball within the two minutes to do so as allowed in the ICC playing conditions, was informed he was timed out.During the innings break, reserve umpire Adrian Holdstock explained the process behind the dismissal to broadcaster : “The fielding captain initiated the appeal to Marais Erasmus, who was the standing umpire, that he wanted to appeal for timed out.”Mathews was yet to put on the new helmet and Karunaratne was still standing near the pitch when the news of his dismissal was relayed to Mathews. At this stage, at least three minutes and twenty seconds had elapsed since previous batter Sadeera Samarawickrama’s dismissal.Mathews initially seemed to think the umpire was not serious, but quickly wore a worried expression, and engaged in a long discussion with both Erasmus and square-leg umpire Richard Illingworth.
Erasmus then approached Shakib and had a quick discussion (the second between the two), following which Mathews also spoke briefly to Shakib, who offered a consoling tap on Mathews’ shoulder. But ultimately, the decision to rule him timed out was upheld, prompting more animated and visibly upset gesturing from Mathews at his broken helmet strap. At the time of Mathews’ being given out formally, Bangladesh had long since broken their huddle, and had taken their places in the field, with Shakib at the top of his mark, ready to bowl.”As a batsman I think you need to make sure that you have all your equipment in place in order to make sure you get here, because you actually have to be ready to receive the ball within two minutes – not ready to prepare or take your guard,” Holdstock told Ian Bishop during the innings break, confirming that no discretion is to be made for equipment malfunction. “So technically, you should be there within maybe 15 seconds to make sure all those things are in place before you actually receive the ball.”ESPNcricinfo Ltd
Holdstock also said two minutes had already elapsed between the dismissal of Samarawickrama and the strap “becoming an issue” for Mathews. “And in the instance this afternoon, the batter wasn’t ready to receive the ball within in those two minutes, even before the strap became an issue for him. The two minutes had already elapsed before he had received the next delivery.”Video footage of the events showed that somewhere between a minute and 50 seconds and a minute and 55 seconds had passed since Samarawickrama had been dismissed. The ICC playing conditions stipulate clearly that the batter must be ready to receive the ball within two minutes, which Mathews was not: “40.1 Out Timed out 40.1.1 After the fall of a wicket or the retirement of a batter, the incoming batter must, unless Time has been called, be ready to receive the ball or for the other batter to be ready to receive the next ball within two minutes of the dismissal or retirement. If this requirement is not met, the incoming batter will be out, Timed Out.”Mathews was visibly annoyed by the mode of dismissal as he left the field. He kicked the helmet in frustration as he passed out of the playing area and chucked his bat away. His dismissal left Sri Lanka in significant trouble, at 135 for 5. Charith Asalanka then scored a hundred though, to help his side recover to 279.

He did however pick up a wicket in the only ODI he played on the tour.Unadkat, 31, has played 103 first-class matches, including four Tests. He has picked up 382 first-class wickets at an average of 22.58 and an economy of 2.94.He captained Saurashtra to their maiden Ranji Trophy title in 2020, taking 67 wickets in that campaign, which is the most by a fast bowler in a single season. He then led them to a second title this year, claiming the Player-of-the-Match trophy in the final against Bengal.”We are delighted that Jaydev will join us for the September championship period, he is a quality bowler and a great guy to have join our squad at an exciting time of the season,” Sussex head coach Farbrace said. “His record is outstanding, and we will be looking for Jaydev to share his experience with our developing team.”

Dan Moriarty has found opportunities at Surrey limited this season•Getty Images
Dan Moriarty has joined Yorkshire on loan for four County Championship games, after struggling for opportunities at Surrey.Moriarty, 24, is one of the most promising young spinners in English cricket but has found himself playing second-team cricket this summer. Surrey have relied heavily on their seamers in the Championship and have picked allrounder Will Jacks and Cameron Steel ahead of their specialists.Yorkshire have brought Moriarty in for their next four Championship fixtures, including Sunday’s home game against Gloucestershire, and their managing director Darren Gough said he was “a brilliant addition”.Gough added: “With Yorkshire’s focus shortly turning to Championship cricket again, alongside the busy Blast schedule, it was important to add another addition to our bowling resources.”Related

It remains to be seen if he will play straightaway, though Yorkshire’s main spinner, Dom Bess, has struggled this season, taking 12 wickets at 51.33 in five appearances.Moriarty has only played two Championship games in the last 18 months, but Alec Stewart, Surrey’s director of cricket, said he could still play a role in the title run-in later this season.”This is a really good opportunity for Dan to play a number of first-class games over the next month or so,” Stewart said. “Hopefully he’ll put in some really good performances which will prepare him well should he get selected in the Championship run-in during September.”Elsewhere, Glamorgan have brought in Mitchell Swepson, the Australian legspinner, as overseas cover for his Queensland team-mate Michael Neser, who is with Australia’s Ashes squad. He is set to make his debut against Sussex on Sunday.Worcestershire also announced an overseas signing on Friday morning, but their four-match arrangement with Navdeep Saini will be limited by his inclusion in India’s Test squad to play West Indies next month. He is expected to play against Derbyshire on Sunday before leaving for the Caribbean.
Arsenal are now keen on signing a record-breaking wonderkid, who has been left impressed by Mikel Arteta’s project, but there could be competition for his services from Real Madrid and Barcelona, according to a report.
Gunners looking to strengthen in multiple areas
The Gunners have set their sights on targets in a number of key areas ahead of the summer transfer window, but it appears as though signing a new striker could be the first port of call for Arteta, given the widespread links to some top forwards.
Alexander Isak’s stock is likely to have risen once again after scoring for Newcastle United in the EFL Cup final yesterday, helping the Magpies end their 70-year trophy drought with a 2-1 victory over Liverpool, and Arteta remains keen on the Sweden international.
In the same report it is detailed that Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez is also now emerging as a surprise option, while targets in other positions include Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia and Real Sociedad central midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

Arteta is already relatively well-stocked at left-back, with Myles Lewis-Skelly and Oleksandr Zinchenko to choose from, but it appears as though the manager could be keen on bringing in a long-term replacement for the latter player.
That is according to a report from Football Transfers, which states Arsenal are now seriously considering a move for Dinamo Tbilisi left-back Saba Kharebashvili, having already made an enquiry about the possibility of a deal.
Arsenal's MylesLewis-Skellyin action with PSV Eindhoven's Guus Til
Arteta is eventually planning to move Lewis-Skelly back into midfield, meaning Kharebashvili could slot in at left-back, although it is unlikely to be any time soon, given that he is just 16 years old and unable to move to the Emirates Stadium until 2027.
A transfer could still be agreed in the summer, however, the Gunners may face fierce competition for the youngster’s signature, given that Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona have also been linked with a move, alongside Liverpool.
"Phenomenon" Kharebashvili is one for the future
The teenager is unable to complete a move to north London in the near future, but there are indications he could be a fantastic long-term addition to the squad, given that he has already started to break records.
The report states the Dinamo Tbilisi starlet became the youngest player to feature in a UEFA club competition last season, doing so at just 15-years-old, while he has also received high praise from football talent scout Jacek Kulig, who described him as a “phenomenon.”
Having also been described as a “leader” of the Georgia U17 team, which he captains, there are plenty of indications the starlet could have the requisite qualities to be a success in the Premier League.
As such, Arsenal will be hoping they can beat Barcelona and Real Madrid to the Georgian’s signature, and the fact he is impressed by Arteta’s project could potentially give them the edge in negotiations.
“The constitution has to be robust,” Ramiz says about the constant tweaking of the guidelines
Umar Farooq27-Dec-2022Ramiz Raja has called the Pakistan government’s move to remove him as PCB chair after just one year into a three-year term “political interference”.”Politics should not be mixed up in cricket,” Ramiz said on his YouTube channel. “This is a game of cricketers and a playing field for them. Some people come from outside the circle, and to adjust one person [Sethi], they had to change the entire constitution. I have not seen this anywhere in the world.”There is etiquette to do things and it has been done in the middle of the season when teams are visiting Pakistan. Then you have changed the chief selector [Mohammad Wasim] regardless of him doing good or bad. He has played Test cricket for Pakistan, and you should make them leave with respect.Related

“And then he [Sethi] tweets late in the night at 2.15am that Ramiz is gone. It hurts because I have played for Pakistan. It has been made out as if a messiah [Sethi] has come, who will take the game to new heights. We know what are the motives behind it. They love the entitlement and want the limelight otherwise they have nothing to do with cricket, and they have never lifted a bat. They have changed the set-up in the middle of the season, they are bringing back Micky Arthur. Saqlain Mushtaq’s tenure was ending anyway in January. Saqlain has played over 50 [49] Tests, he is a legend. This is no way to treat cricketers.”Ramiz and other PCB board members were replaced by a 14-member management committee, led by former board head Najam Sethi, by Shahbaz Sharif, who recently replaced Imran Khan as Pakistan’s prime minister. The committee has 120 days to change the PCB’s constitution, bringing back the 2014 version, which was replaced in 2019.The PCB constitution – whether of 2014 or 2019 – gives the patron the right to name two direct nominees in the PCB Board of which one is elected as the chair. With the change of government usually comes a change of chairmanship and board administration, almost immediately. But as the new government – with a coalition of several political parties – worked its way through more pressing matters in the country, Ramiz stayed under the radar and continued in the position. But his exit was inevitable sooner or later.Ramiz: ‘I would say it’s political interference’ “It’s frustrating when you are told to step aside after 12 months when you were given a term of three years,” Ramiz said. “I would say it’s political interference because you want to recruit someone politically. It will not help cricket and it won’t help with the [lack of] continuity. It leads to pressure on the cricket board, the system, the national team and the captain. The constitution has to be robust. It happens only in Pakistan. I will continue to raise the subject on international platforms. It has become a joke.”Najam Sethi at his first meeting after returning to the PCB•PCBUnder Sethi, in under a week, the PCB has terminated the contract of chief selector Wasim and disbanded all committees formed under the now-defunct 2019 constitution. This was the first decision the new board took after formally taking charge last Thursday, while also naming Shahid Afridi as interim chief selector for the ongoing New Zealand series. The committee is also expected to bring in foreign coaches in both men’s and women’s teams. The Test squad picked for the New Zealand series was also reviewed; three players were later added to the original Test squad, while Sarfaraz Ahmed was elevated from the bench to replace Mohammad Rizwan in the playing XI.The Pakistan government has already revoked the 2019 constitution the PCB was operating under and has given Sethi’s committee full executive powers to revive the constitution of 2014. Apart from the changes in the board and its structure, that constitution will also bring department sides back into domestic cricket – they had been removed in 2019 after Imran became the prime minister [the PM automatically becomes the PCB’s patron].After his exit from the PCB, Ramiz could go back to broadcasting, and Sethi confirmed that the PCB woouldn’t have any issues with that.”I have great respect for him [Ramiz] and let me make it clear that he will not be barred from commentary,” Sethi said. “I am aware how much pressure he was under from the top [Imran] about me and that’s not his fault. Ramiz is a free man and if he is selected for commentary, he will not be stopped at any stage.”
Action shifts to Mount Maunganui with the series now a two-match contest
ESPNcricinfo staff18-Nov-2022India’s white-ball tour of New Zealand began with the first T20I in Wellington being washed out without a toss. Both sides were consigned indoors due to continuous rain. Barring a very short dry spell, it was wet throughout. That was disappointing news for the fans in attendance at the Sky Stadium, which was set to host its first men’s T20I match in 20 months.Even while it was drizzling, on-field umpires Chris Brown and Wayne Knights seemed to be inspecting the outfield to gauge the earliest time a match could start once the rain stopped. However, that never happened, with the game called off at 8.52pm local time, roughly 54 minutes before the cut-off time for a five-over shootout. The T20I series now moves to Mount Maunganui for the second match on Sunday, after which the teams will move to Napier for the third T20I on Tuesday.A young India squad is being led by Hardik Pandya for the T20I series with many senior players rested. New Zealand are competing without Martin Guptill and Trent Boult with both sides looking to move on from their respective semi-final defeats at the T20 World Cup in Australia.
