Sheffield United’s Dean Henderson loving England duty in Instagram snap

The stopper shared an image on social media of him posing with Ross Barkley and Mason Mount in training.

Based on the smiles on the players’ faces it seems that Henderson has almost immediately settled into life as an international footballer.

If the 22-year-old continues to improve at the rate he has over recent years, he may well be an England regular one day, so it’s good to see him embracing this experience in the camp.

Southampton fans praise Radhi Jaidi on 10th anniversary of his Saints debut

[ad_pod ]

Some Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to heap praise on Radhi Jaidi after he posted a tweet commemorating the 10th anniversary of his debut for the club.

Jaidi, who still works at St Mary’s as head coach of the Under-23 side, made 66 appearances for the Saints from 2009-2012.

He was a formidable centre-back and despite spending just three years on the South Coast, the 44-year-old appeared to make a real impression on some supporters, who continue to hold him in high regard – judging by their reactions to his post on Twitter.

One fan said that he’s “glad” Jaidi is still with the club and that he is a “top man”.

Another supporter called the 105-cap former Tunisia international a “role model” – it’s safe to say he made a name for himself in his three years at St Mary’s.

Let’s take a look at some more of the Twitter reaction below…

Barcelona fans slam Antoine Griezmann after Inter Milan clash

Barcelona have done it.

They welcomed Inter Milan at the Camp Nou and managed to take all three points after a hard-fought 2-1 victory.

It was far from easy and the Italians even took an early lead but Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi combined forces and mounted an impressive comeback to record the Blaugrana’s first group stage victory of the campaign.

Antonio Conte’s men were brave and will most likely be disappointed with the outcome but there are still a lot of games to be played, and nothing is set in stone.

But if there was one player who didn’t really have the best of games, according to many Barca fans, then that was Antoine Griezmann, the Catalans’ big summer signing.

The Frenchman was deployed on the left wing once again and he failed to make any kind of impact throughout the clash, which many fans immediately recognised, calling his display a “disasterclass” and him the “worst player on the field”.

One fan even thinks that he will become the next Philippe Coutinho thanks to Ernesto Valverde. The Brazilian, of course, is currently on loan at Bayern Munich.

Check out some of their replies down in the tweets below:

Gary Neville goes to war with Graeme Souness over Marcus Rashford

Despite grabbing a goal and putting in one of his finest performances to date, Marcus Rashford found himself on the wrong end of a Graeme Souness tirade after Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against rivals Liverpool.

Souness’ main point of contention is that the 21-year-old, who made his way through United’s academy system, simply doesn’t cut it as a world-class no.9, which is probably a fair assessment given he’s recorded just two goals in open play so far this term.

Two of the four he’s scored in 2019/20 have come from the penalty spot.

“He’s not the finished article right now,” the former Liverpool manager said. “He’s not scored enough goals in the Premier League to say Man United can hang their hat on him being the man who’s going to take them back. He needs help.”

Neville, on the other hand, is quick to point out the development of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane as examples of what can happen if a club show some faith in their talent.

United made the decision to not recruit replacements for Inter Milan-bound Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku in the summer transfer window, opting instead to stick with Daniel James, Anthony Martial and our man in question, Rashford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have netted an average 0.72 goals per game in all competitions since they battered Chelsea on the opening day of the season.

Following Sunday’s game, Gary Neville and Souness got into a heated debate over Rashford’s future at Old Trafford…

Poor Solskjaer has to deal with this nightmare debate every time he goes to make a team selection.

Spurs fans hail Harry Kane after England hat-trick

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur fans have hailed Harry Kane after he scored a hat-trick in England’s straightforward 4-0 win over Bulgaria on Saturday.

The Three Lions cruised to victory at Wembley against a team that rarely threatened to attack, let alone score.

Kane netted two penalties and a smart finish on the turn after being played in by Raheem Sterling to put Bulgaria to the sword.

He also played the part of creator, assisting Sterling’s goal, as Gareth Southgate’s men continued their 100% start to qualification for Euro 2020.

And Spurs fans were quick to praise the England skipper on Twitter after a rather quiet opening to the season.

Lammonby, Vaughan steer Somerset after top-order shuffle

Sussex attack kept at bay by committed batting from hosts down at Taunton

ECB Reporters Network supported by Rothesay16-May-2025Half-centuries from Tom Lammonby and Archie Vaughan guided Somerset into a healthy position on the opening day of the Rothesay County Championship Division One match with Sussex at the Cooper Associates Ground, Taunton.Lammonby hit 60 and 19-year-old Vaughan a career-best 70 not out as a shuffled Somerset batting line-up posted 317 for six in warm sunshine after losing the toss. James Rew contributed 46 and Tom Abell 42 on a wicket offering just enough assistance to seam and spin to keep the Sussex bowlers interested throughout the day. There were two wickets each for Ollie Robinson and Jack Carson as the visiting attack kept a tight rein on the scoring rate for most of the three sessions.
With the pitch an inviting shade of green, it was no surprise when Sussex skipper John Simpson elected to field first, despite cloudless skies and a short boundary on the town side of the ground. There was a surprise for home supporters when Josh Davey and skipper Lewis Gregory, both more used to operating in the lower order, marched out as a new opening partnership, keen to help their side overcome some poor starts in Championship cricket. They had taken the score to 21 in the sixth over when Gregory edged a defensive push off Nathan McAndrew to Tom Clark at second slip and departed for 15. But the experiment could be deemed a success as Davey settled in to play with patience and sound technique. He and Lammonby put together a half-century stand off 109 balls and it wasn’t until the 26th over that Sussex struck again, Davey, on 28, judged to have feathered a back-foot defensive shot off Ollie Robinson to wicketkeeper Simpson, who took a good low catch.Davey was replaced by Rew with the score 79 for two. By lunch, it had moved on to 99 for two and Somerset could feel pleased with their morning’s work. Rew continued his impressive recent form as he and fellow left-hander Lammonby negotiated the opening overs of the afternoon session with few alarms.Rew had progressed to 46 when attempting to drive a full ball from off-spinner Carson, who was finding some turn, and edging to Tom Haines at slip to make it 149 for three. A single off the same bowler took Lammonby to an impressive 120-ball fifty, including five fours, but he too perished unexpectedly with the score on 176, caught behind nicking a back-foot defensive shot off Carson.Abell was dropped at slip on 13 off the left-arm spin of James Coles, but Sussex continued to make inroads as Tom Banton fell for six, caught at slip off Fynn Hudson-Prentice. It was another contentious decision as the ball appeared to flick Simpson’s gloves as he stood up to the stumps on its way to the catcher Tom Alsop, but umpire Mike Burns also detected an edge, much to Banton’s obvious astonishment. The tea score was 193 for five, with Abell having battled his way to 16 without looking in great touch. He had been joined by Vaughan, also looking to rediscover his best form after a difficult spell opening the innings in previous games this season. Both players blossomed at the start of the final session, accelerating the scoring rate and bringing up a 50-stand off 63 balls. A Vaughan boundary to third man off Clark yielded Somerset their first batting bonus point at 250 for five.Vaughan had been positive from his first delivery, which he crunched through the off-side for four off Hudson-Prentice. Soon he had overtaken Abell, who fell in the third over with the second new ball, fending a ball from Robinson to Clark at second slip, just when he was starting to flow.Vaughan moved to a fluent fifty off 79 balls with his ninth four, clipped off his toes to the short boundary off McAndrew. He then went past his previous best score of 68, made against Lancashire last season, as Craig Overton helped see Somerset to the close.

Sheffield Wednesday bouncing back after turbulent summer

If anyone was under any doubts as to the incredible and transformative effects results can have in sport they should look towards Hillsborough right now. Sheffield Wednesday are preparing for a challenging trip to Millwall this weekend and they go there as league leaders boasting two wins from their opening brace of fixtures. Thanks in no small part to the return of Kieran Lee, their influential midfielder, and the excellent work of Lee Bullen, the club’s oft-used caretaker boss, the Owls are on an up-curve and the fans are full of vigour.

The blue and white half of Sheffield is feeling upbeat and even at this embryonic stage of the campaign promotion is being talked about with admirable candour.

Such optimism is in stark contrast to the summer just endured, a dispiriting period that began with teeth firmly gritted at the sight of their arch rivals United reaching the promised land of the Premier League. That was hard to take. And as the Blades scythed their way through the transfer market Wednesday were forced to adhere to a ‘soft embargo’ placed upon them due to a failure in handing in their 2017/18 accounts on time.

Watch Sheffield Wednesday Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

In July Wednesday’s owner Dejphon Chansiri bought Hillsborough for £60m to ensure they did not breach FFP and if this further highlighted the club’s financial problems things got a whole lot worse in that very same week when it was announced that manager Steve Bruce was leaving Yorkshire after just six months in charge to take over at Newcastle United.

With a new season approaching Sheffield Wednesday were finding it increasingly difficult to bring in new players and had no-one at the wheel anyway to select them. To make matters worse their previous two campaigns left them stoically mid-table on each occasion suggesting that the present squad wasn’t good enough to mount a serious charge for the top.

How was your summer? It’s probably fair to say it was better than a Wednesdayite’s.

After being loaned Jacob Murphy from Newcastle, have Sheff Wed fans forgiven Steve Bruce? Find out in the video below…

If the whole picture brought consternation, the departure of Bruce prompted only anger. The fans were aggrieved while the club itself sought legal action and the general exasperation at his switch was understandable because the former Manchester United defender – briefly – brought a stabilising influence. On his arrival on February 1st Wednesday had won only 9 from 28 league games. They went on to lose only three more times from 18 and that included an initial two-month unbeaten spell.

Enter Bullen. Twice before the 48-year-old has stepped into the breach following a sacking or resignation and once again he has injected positivity where so recently there was only despair.

Going forward the team has pace to spare in the form of Jacob Murphy and Kadeem Harris while Steven Fletcher provides a reliable focal point, netting 11 last season. The performances to date have been bright and energetic. “We’re all enjoying ourselves,” Bullen said with a broad grin after the Barnsley win.

Last season the Blades pulled off the near-miraculous feat of promotion. If Wednesday followed suit – given their soap operatic few years – it would surely exceed it for excellence.

SRH bowl, Brevis debuts for CSK

Shami returns for SRH while Mendis replaces Malinga

ESPNcricinfo staff25-Apr-20252:38

How SRH could get off the mark against CSK in Chennai

Pat Cummins won just his third toss of the season and elected to field as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) chase their first-ever win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Chennai. Both teams expected dew later in the night; even CSK would have fielded first. Both teams were at the bottom of the table with just two wins out of eight matches. The big team news was a CSK debut for Dewald Brevis, fondly known as Baby AB for his similarities in style with AB de Villiers. Brevis made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians, but was released and went unsold at the auction. He was drafted in mid-season as replacement of Gurjapneet Singh.Brevis’ inclusion, though, meant Rachin Ravindra missed out, leaving Ayush Mhatre, CSK’s youngest player ever, to open the innings with Shaik Rasheed. Deepak Hooda replaced Vijay Shankar in the middle order, and Sam Curran came back too. Jamie Overton made way for Curran. R Ashwin was named in the list of substitutes.SRH rung in the changes too. The Sri Lankan swap brought in ambidextrous spinner Kamindu Mendis for Eshan Malinga. Mohammed Shami made his comeback too. Travis Head was almost certain to be the Impact Player during the chase.Chennai Super Kings 1 Ayush Mhatre, 2 Shaik Rasheed, 3 Sam Curran, 4 Dewald Brevis, 5 Ravindra Jadeja, 6 Shivam Dube, 7 Deepak Hooda, 8 MS Dhoni (capt. & wk), 9 Noor Ahmad, 10 Khaleel Ahmad, 11 Matheesha PathiranaPossible Impact Subs Anshul Kamboj, R Ashwin, Jamie Overton, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Ramakrishna GhoshSunrisers Hyderabad 1 Abhishek Sharma, 2 Ishan Kishan, 3 Nitish Kumar Reddy, 4 Heinrich Klaasen (wk), 5 Aniket Verma, 6 Kamindu Mendis, 7 Pat Cummins (capt.), 8 Harshal Patel, 9 Jaydev Unadkat, 10 Zeeshan Ansari, 11 Mohammed Shami.Possible Impact Subs Travis Head, Abhinav Mahohar, Sachin Baby, Rahul Chahar, Wiaan Mulder

Bairstow bolsters Yorkshire before rain secures draw

Durham hampered in bid for victory by weather and injuries to seam attack

ECB Reporters Network supported by Rothesay21-Apr-2025Captain Jonny Bairstow posted an unbeaten 86 as Yorkshire thwarted a depleted Durham attack to secure a Rothesay County Championship draw during a shortened fourth day at the Banks Homes Riverside.Impressive Bairstow shared half-century partnerships for the fifth and sixth wickets with allrounders George Hill and Matthew Revis during the morning session as Yorkshire, who started the day on 132 for 4 in their second innings – leading by 12 – reached 232 for 5 at lunch. With a lead of 112, Yorkshire had taken the sting out of the situation and continued to build their lead after the break, when rain arrived just before 3pm with the score at 277 for 6 from 105.3 overs and 157 ahead. A draw left them with a 13-point haul from this third round match, added to an earlier defeat and victory to start the season.Durham will rue the loss of injured seamers Paul Coughlin and Brendan Doggett throughout this fixture, which saw them claim 15 points and end a two-match losing start.Bairstow’s 167-ball effort included 11 fours and represented his second fifty of the summer.Coughlin’s abdominal problem was sustained on day one and seems more serious. Australian overseas Doggett, however, went over on his ankle during day three and was not on the field purely as a precaution. It meant captain Alex Lees, who scored a first-innings 172, was left with only four bowling options on day four – tireless new-ball seamers Ben Raine and Matthew Potts, medium-pacer Will Rhodes and the part-time offspin of Colin Ackermann. Durham had to use their 40-year-old batting coach Will Gidman as a substitute fielder.Bairstow started day four, which began with the floodlights on, with only two runs to his name. But he was quickly out of the blocks with a couple of boundaries off Potts in the day’s opening over. The situation meant that Bairstow, who played the last of his 100 Tests for England to date in March of last year, was never going to be wholly dominant. But he was far from becalmed against both the old ball and then the new.He completed a fifth-wicket stand of 59 with Hill, who contributed 24 before pulling Ackermann to midwicket, leaving Yorkshire at 176 for 5 in the 73rd over, a lead of 56.Bairstow was strong on the pull against Potts and then Raine, either side of reaching his fifty off 91 balls, while he drove another eye-catching boundary almost arrow straight off Rhodes.Revis also moved into the 20s with a couple of back-foot boundaries off Raine just before lunch at 232 for 5 with some light rain falling. After lunch, Potts had a five-over spell which Yorkshire negated. But by then, it felt as if the sting had been taken out of the situation with the threat of rain increasing.Potts bowled 50 overs in this match – 20 in the first innings and 30 in the second – for three wickets and has sent down 139 in three matches so far this season. Raine, meanwhile, has bowled 141 overs – the most in Division One. He took six wickets in the match.Ackermann had Revis caught behind off the inside-edge on 40, leaving Yorkshire 272 for 6. That ended a 96-run partnership with Bairstow, who was denied the chance to post a 32nd career first-class century. But his No. 1 objective of steering his side to safety had been achieved.Umpires Martin Saggers and Surendiran Shanmugam called a close to the fixture at 4pm.

Clark, Simpson centuries drive Sussex into ascendancy

Strong showing on opening day of campaign puts new-look Warwickshire attack on back foot

ECB Reporters Network supported by Rothesay04-Apr-2025Sussex 386 for 5 (Clark 140, Simpson 116*, Coles 51) vs Warwickshire Centuries by Tom Clark and John Simpson ensured that Sussex returned to the Rothesay County Championship Division One with a strong day’s work against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.Clark struck an accomplished 140 (279 balls) and Simpson an assertive unbeaten 116 (142) in a partnership of 200 in 44 overs as Sussex recovered from 40 for three to close on 386 for five.Three early wickets for debutant Ethan Bamber appeared to vindicate Warwickshire’s decision to bowl first, but thereafter it was a struggle for an attack missing injured first-choice opening bowlers Olly Hannon-Dalby and Chris Rushworth.Clark and Simpson took full advantage to post their fourth and 16th first-class centuries respectively.Warwickshire, their squad in deep transition, started the season with four debutants – Bamber, Vishwa Fernando, Tazeem Ali and Kai Smith – and two of the newcomers opened the bowling to very different effect. Fernando went for three fours in his first over of a fruitless spell but Bamber unfurled an excellent opening burst of 7-5-8-3. The former Middlesex all-rounder trapped Tom Haines lbw, playing across the line, then removed Daniel Hughes and Tom Alsop with successive balls. Hughes copped an arguable lbw decision before Alsop edged an outswinger to Rob Yates at second slip. The brittle foundation of 40 for three was diligently shored up by a stand of 121 in 37 overs between Clark and James Coles (51, 102). The latter played fluently to be first to his half-century but then rather gave it away when he skied an ill-judged leg-side swipe at Tazeem to give the 18-year-old leg-spinner his first championship wicket.Any hopes the sizeable home crowd harboured of another Sussex clatter proved ill-founded. Instead, Simpson joined Clark to make it back-to-back century stands.Sussex skipper Simpson enjoyed a superb first season at Hove last year, averaging 74.81 with the bat in the championship, and resumed in the same vein as he breezed to a 58-ball half-century. Clark, meanwhile, concentrated implacably and reached his fourth first class century, from 223 balls, with his 15th four, cut off a short delivery from Dan Mousley. On a pitch offering little assistance for the bowlers, the limitations of Warwickshire’s injury-hit attack became clear as the fifth-wicket pair’s partnership passed 150. The depleted nature of that attack does raise a question mark over Warwickshire’s decision to bowl first, though that decision might have a bit to do with the recent history of Edgbaston pitches to flatten out as the match goes on, making wickets even harder to acquire.Clark perished six overs before the close when he edged Ed Barnard behind but in the next over Simpson followed him to three figures, becoming the first Sussex player ever to reach a first class century with a three to backward point on a Friday in Birmingham. Sussex’s return to Division One has been highly encouraging.
