Man United’s Maguire claims he’s glad he no longer has to face Rashford (and vice versa)

Aw, how sweet – Marcus Rashford has responded to Harry Maguire’s congratulations post, in which he claims to be delighted to not have to face him on the opposing team, by reciprocating his joy that the pair will remain teammates for the foreseeable future.

Having played against Rashford on eight separate occasions throughout his career, first for Hull City and then Leicester, the man affectionately dubbed “Slab Head” has won just once against his current teammate, drawing twice and losing a further five more.

Maguire joined Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United side for a world record fee in the summer after two years with fellow top-four hopefuls Leicester City. And after congratulating Rashford on hitting 50 goals for the club – a feat he completed against Norwich City on Sunday, despite missing a penalty – the defender dug up an image of the pair clashing with one another at Old Trafford.

Rashford responded accordingly…

The pair will be hoping to build on the club’s recent form, which has seen them win two in two games, when they travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Wednesday.

Arsenal fans fuming as Kieran Tierney misses Sheffield United defeat

Arsenal fans were left fuming after Kieran Tierney was left out of the Arsenal starting XI to play Sheffield United on Monday evening. The summer signing from Celtic has yet to make his Premier League debut following his £25m move to The Emirates. He has, however, played in both the Europa League and the Carabao Cup – against Standard Liege and Nottingham Forest respectively – though Unai Emery opted against utilising him in the clash with Chris Wilder’s men at Bramall Lane.Sead Kolasinac played at left-back instead and fans were disappointed as the Gunners slipped to a disappointing 1-0 defeat, wasting the chance to move third in the table in the process.

Lys Mousset’s solitary goal proved decisive following Nicolas Pepe’s horror miss in the first half.

And supporters were quick to take to Twitter to slam Emery for his team selection.

Take a look at the best of the reaction on social media below!

Gary Neville goes to war with Graeme Souness over Marcus Rashford

Despite grabbing a goal and putting in one of his finest performances to date, Marcus Rashford found himself on the wrong end of a Graeme Souness tirade after Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against rivals Liverpool.

Souness’ main point of contention is that the 21-year-old, who made his way through United’s academy system, simply doesn’t cut it as a world-class no.9, which is probably a fair assessment given he’s recorded just two goals in open play so far this term.

Two of the four he’s scored in 2019/20 have come from the penalty spot.

“He’s not the finished article right now,” the former Liverpool manager said. “He’s not scored enough goals in the Premier League to say Man United can hang their hat on him being the man who’s going to take them back. He needs help.”

Neville, on the other hand, is quick to point out the development of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane as examples of what can happen if a club show some faith in their talent.

United made the decision to not recruit replacements for Inter Milan-bound Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku in the summer transfer window, opting instead to stick with Daniel James, Anthony Martial and our man in question, Rashford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have netted an average 0.72 goals per game in all competitions since they battered Chelsea on the opening day of the season.

Following Sunday’s game, Gary Neville and Souness got into a heated debate over Rashford’s future at Old Trafford…

Poor Solskjaer has to deal with this nightmare debate every time he goes to make a team selection.

Arsenal legend David Seaman criticises Emery despite 4-0 win

Sometimes you just can’t win as a football manager.Watch Arsenal Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Unai Emery’s side had one of their best performances of the season on Thursday, as Gabriel Martinelli looked extremely impressive and Kieran Tierney grabbed an assist.

However, David Seaman seemingly wasn’t happy with the former PSG boss’ decision to bring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on in the 79th minute of their Europa League win.

The former goalkeeper was baffled by the manager’s switch, and you can kind of understand why.

The Gabonese striker is one of Arsenal’s most important players, so bringing him on for ten minutes when you’re already 4-0 up seems like a bit of an unnecessary injury risk.

Fortunately, the Gunners striker didn’t pick up a problem against Standard Liege, but he easily could have done, and if he had, Emery would have undoubtedly received even more criticism for making the substitution.

The Gunners now face a home clash against Bournemouth before the international break.

Barcelona fans slam Antoine Griezmann after Inter Milan clash

Barcelona have done it.

They welcomed Inter Milan at the Camp Nou and managed to take all three points after a hard-fought 2-1 victory.

It was far from easy and the Italians even took an early lead but Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi combined forces and mounted an impressive comeback to record the Blaugrana’s first group stage victory of the campaign.

Antonio Conte’s men were brave and will most likely be disappointed with the outcome but there are still a lot of games to be played, and nothing is set in stone.

But if there was one player who didn’t really have the best of games, according to many Barca fans, then that was Antoine Griezmann, the Catalans’ big summer signing.

The Frenchman was deployed on the left wing once again and he failed to make any kind of impact throughout the clash, which many fans immediately recognised, calling his display a “disasterclass” and him the “worst player on the field”.

One fan even thinks that he will become the next Philippe Coutinho thanks to Ernesto Valverde. The Brazilian, of course, is currently on loan at Bayern Munich.

Liverpool: Wilson thriving at new club

With Liverpool currently having the likes of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah in their squad, it’s safe to say the duo have been two of Liverpool’s most important players in that time.

Between two of the Merseyside club’s biggest attacking threats in recent years, they have a combined total of 202 Premier League goals between them,

One winger that was unable to make his mark in Jurgen Klopp’s squad was Harry Wilson who left the club during the recent summer transfer window. He exited in a permanent move to Championship club Fulham in a deal worth a reported fee of £12m on a five-year deal.

As a product of Liverpool’s youth academy, the 24-year-old who is currently valued at £15.3m according to Transfermarkt and had been on a number of loan deals away from Anfield at clubs such as Crewe Alexandra, Hull City, Derby County, AFC Bournemouth and Cardiff City before finally saying goodbye to Liverpool on a permanent basis.

Since joining the west London club, the Welshman, who was once dubbed as “incredible” by Klopp, has managed to score three goals and provide three assists in just eight Championship appearances with Marco Silva’s side.

In addition to this, Wilson has also managed to earn himself an impressive overall season rating of 7.19/10 for his performances in the Championship, making him Fulham’s third-highest rated player according to WhoScored.

While it could be seen that Wilson has now found his level in the Championship, we feel that Liverpool could potentially end up regretting allowing Wilson to leave the Merseyside club on a permanent basis if he continues to impress and develop his game, especially if he ends up doing it in the Premier League.

However, for the time being, and with Liverpool having Salah and Mane firing on all cylinders, there may not be too much to be concerned about regarding Wilson’s move to Fulham. However, there is every chance it could come back to bite them by the time he hits his peak.

Hay drops Leeds claim on Kalvin Phillips

The Athletic’s Phil Hay has admitted that he expects it to be a “matter of time” before an offer comes in for Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips.

What’s the story?

Reports in recent days have claimed that Manchester United have earmarked the England international as a key midfield target, and Hay has now suggested that while Phillips is expected to sign a new contract at Elland Road, he could still be off in the near future.

He said: “This is very much the right question with regards to Phillips. On one hand, a new deal will elevate his salary to the level an England international should be at. On the other, it hikes up his value to the highest possible level and there’s a lot of realism at Elland Road about Phillips’ trajectory. At this rate, it feels like a matter of time before someone bids big for him and in those circumstances, it’s not as simple as the club rejecting an offer.

“The situation would depend on whether Phillips wants to stay, how much the bid is worth and whether actually, a sale at the right time could work for everyone if the club know how they will reinvest. Leeds don’t want to lose him but they respect him enough not to want to hold him back either. He’s rapidly becoming Champions League material. But expect a new contract to be agreed before long.”

Fans will be gutted

While a move to United seems unthinkable for a player who’s become the heartbeat of this Leeds side, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a number of European football’s top heavyweights to consider making a move for Phillips sometime soon.

If he continues to impress at club level, and also on international duty with England, more of these sides will sit up and take notice, and look to move for a player who remains only 25.

Aside from what he means to the club and the fan-base as a whole, Phillips has become one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League – last season, his 2.6 tackles per game ranked him in the top 15 players among the entire division, while his 1.6 interceptions per match were also good enough to make the top 20.

It was that form that saw him break into Gareth Southgate’s starting line-up for England and emerge as a key part of the midfield duo alongside Declan Rice that took the Three Lions all the way to the finals of the EUROs.

Hay’s latest claim that a big bid could be coming for Phillips is sure to leave fans gutted.

Meanwhile, Phil Hay has also delivered an update on the plans at Elland Road…

NUFC takeover claim after Ambani rumour

Liam Kennedy has now dropped some reassuring insight on the potential takeover of Newcastle United after a rumour emerged involving Mukesh Ambani.

The Lowdown: Ambani rumour

As per The Shields Gazette, the name Mukesh Ambani has recently been trending amid rumours that he may revisit a possible takeover at St. James’ Park having previously bene linked with one back in 2008 and 2011.

This comes as the North East club await the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) case over the stalled takeover deal between Mike Ashley and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) group, which is set to take place this month after a delay in proceedings, according to The Chronicle.

The Latest: Kennedy on rumour

Writing in his latest piece for Newcastle World, Kennedy has claimed that the Toon Army should be sceptical over the latest link, but did reassure them with some insight from parties involved in the potential deal with the KSA consortium.

The journalist says that there ‘remains a confidence’ from all parties involved in the bid that a deal can still be done.

The Verdict: Reassuring

It is certainly reassuring to hear that all parties remain confident in the deal, given the constant delays that have been happening with cases.

The arbitration hearing between the Tyneside outfit and the Premier League is not set to take place until early next year now, and so the fight goes on to get a takeover over the line.

Nonetheless, with rumours with regards to Ambani seemingly squashed by Kennedy for now, there is at least still some hope from the KSA consortium.

Leeds fans crucify Ayling display vs Norwich

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Leeds fans have been giving their verdict on the setback against Norwich, and they’re fuming with the performance of Luke Ayling.

Leeds lost their spot as the kings of the castle on Saturday evening, falling into second place in the table as Norwich thumped three goals past them at Elland Road.

Mario Vrancic opened the scoring with a delightful free kick that Kiko Casilla had absolutely zero chance of stopping, and Teemu Pukki got one of the easiest goals of his life after Adam Forshaw had given the ball away in midfield.

Thogden has ranked his top 5 sets of Championship away fans for Pl>ymaker FC. Did your club make the list? Find out in the video below…

Vrancic added a third in the second half when his deflected effort snuck through the legs of Casilla, and Patrick Bamford’s late header was little more than a consolation.

Ayling has been a popular figure at Elland Road over the last couple of years, but the versatile defender is having a poor season.

Perhaps it is a result of the two knee injuries he has suffered over the last 18 months, but the 27 year-old has the turning circle of a cruise ship and the passing ability of Caleb Ekuban on roller skates.

That may be a little harsh, but the right-back was constantly caught in possession against Norwich and it’s not the first time this season he has been completely off the pace.
